How to make realistic and inexpensive concrete Bridge Piers and Retaining Walls

I have a lot of bridges on my layout and ready made Bridge Piers/Abutments are expensive and somewhat hard to find in O scale.  I wanted poured concrete.  I tried painting wood with concrete colored paint and then tried to get the right effect with chalks, pastels, paints and washes.  The results did not look at all like concrete.  I got the idea to try print photos of poured concrete on still paper and apply them to forms made of wood and other appropriate material.  Finding good photos proved difficult until I asked my girlfriend, a retired graphic artist, for hel

PRR diesel paint color(s) & eng. #'s

The topic of this post has somewhat always annoyed me, especially as I'm colorblind. I've read that there are two different color(s) that the PRR used to paint their diesels, (Brunwick Green, which some say looks very close to black), and Tuscan (a reddish color of some sort). The diesels painted in the (Tuscan scheme were used in their named trains, right), those in B. Green were for freight service? From what I think I remember as a youngster growing up in New Jersey.

1:43 radio control mobile crane for Denton Brook

Having made a working gantry crane for transferring loads between bartiw gauge and standard gauge, I thought it might be fun to have a go at a mobile crane. I have already converted a number if die-cast lorries to radio control, and thought it might be possible to do a crane, which would be interesting working on the layout.

Renumber a New Rivarossi Big Boy

A friend of mine has a new HO Rivarossi Big Boy with cab number 4018.  He wants to change the cab, tender rear and smokebox top numbers to 4014.  He has new Microscale decals but is unsure how best to remove the existing numbers.  Can anyone share what has worked for them in cases like this?

Thanks,

ABOUT Proto 87 "MOLE" switch machine

Just because looking after  a set of Nscale frog on the Proto 87 store, I see again the switch machine offeresd by Proto 87 website.

Price seems ok for a stalling machine, even if it need resistor to drop the voltage.

They are small and seems simple and reliable and following the Proto 87 reputation they are for sure good turnouts switch machines.

They are may be a good choice in place of the well know switch machines motors.

So a simple question did anyone have try them and ahad some report about.

Thanks to share.

Mr. Rogers Trolly

My apoligies I know this has been discussed before and I'm unable to locate it.

Can anyone provide what model they used to replicate the trolly from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood? Also how they modified it to look like the trolly.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Piedmont Blues - O scale switching layout.

Howdy y'all!

I wanted to share with you a layout that myself and my friend Ford are building for the UK exhibition circuit. It's modular due to needing to be transportable, so technically I guess this could be considered a TOMA thread.

We started with three modules, 3 feet by 2 feet, and are hopefully going to extend it with further modules as time goes on.

Here's some photographs from the first show we took the layout to - it's still a work in progress, but is fully functional as a layout, so we've been having fun running trains. :)
