A Slight Rant on the quality of Menards Railroad Signs

So I recently got one of the menards lasercut railroad signs sadly I have to say I am not impressed, While at first look it was nice one thing that really is a deal breaker for me is the white part of the sign was tape, yup masking tape....

Why would they use that I was wondering if anyone else got one of these and if it is only the C&NW one that uses tape for the white.

Mike Confalone

First thing, I'm new to this hobby I've been involved for about 3 years and am just now getting some benchwork up, so I've never had a layout. I've heard of model railroading legends like John Allen and John Armstrong, but I have to wonder if Mike Confalone couldn't be among that group if he wanted it?  I watch TMTV videos and I get great instruction by experts but it seems they're talking to an auditorium. When I watch Mike's video's it's like he's talking directly to me.

Weekly Photo Fun March 25th to 31st

I haven't seen the latest photo fun yet, so here goes...

Scenary

Was looking through YouTube, mainly lookign for ideas, as you do.

Came across this user. Yes it is modern era, and most people on here prefer Steam. But his rockwork is outstanding  IMO

Great Northern Railway (Gassman Coulee Bridge), West of Minot, North Dakota.

The Great Northern Railway arrived in Minot in the fall of 1886, when they called a halt through the state
for the winter, after having issues constructing a trestle across Gassman Coulee. At least until the trestle
was built, and Until the spring thaw arrived anyway. When trains arrived in town the conductors would call out

"Minot, this is Minot, North Dakota, prepare to meet your DOOM."

Not a very friendly announcement to those just arriving for the first time, if you ask me.

Power Company, Minot, N. D.

Consumers Power Company (CPC)

A short history

It all started in 1909 when an engineering apprentice of Thomas Edison's, H. M. Byllesby formed the Washington County Light & Power Company, a subsidiary of his utilities conglomerate, Consumers Power Company. Between 1912 through 1915, H. M. linked power lines around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. enlarging his customer base from a few thousand to 48,000.

Help with configuration of Hare stationary decoder using LENZ DCC

Has anyone had any experience configuring a HARE stationary decoder with a Lenz system? I used to do this in my sleep but have forgotten how I did it. Yes I have read the manual and no it isn't helping me.

What's on your workbench? April 2018 (and some March)

March shot by so fast, we we hardly noticed. Or maybe we were too busy digging out from 3 snowstorms in the Eastern US. Anyway...

What have you been working on?  Modeling melting run-off, spring flowers, or finally installing the DCC you got in the winter?

I finally built a workbench to have things on a workbench.  I prefer short lead posts so I'll put pics in the 2nd post

Tight cropping photos

I thought I  would post a few photos of tightly cropped versions of old photographs I have taken.
Try this technique with some of your own photographs because you can discover interesting views that you probably didn't know you had. Paradoxically, narrowing the field of view sometimes expands the illusion of reality:
