Modeling general discussion
Searching for train shop in DC area
Are there any good model train shops in the Washington DC area, that are on the Metro and sell older stuff, used or new oldstock?
I'll be there in a week or so, but without wheels.
Thanks!
What approach for the final touch?
The final touch I need to do on this C424, is to move the red painted area back to where I put the masking tape to be like its prototype, but the red area has already been weathered and I need to blend it somehow by painting it. Probably use an airbrush?
Decals for various types of cars
Hi All:
I am building a bunch of different types of cars, hoppers, flats, gons etc. I am looking for "generic" decals for them. My preference would be to just print my own, but my printer does not print white, and I have NO interest in trying to buy and use an ALPS.
I'm not modeling specific cars, so thats not an issue, but I need some decals for road numbers, placards etc
can someone recommend a cheap source for them? or an alternative solution
Thanks
TIM

Sounds of Silence continuing with new ...
With sounds being a feature of the new trains coming out, we/I need to be focused on reducing the noise from train running. I've picked my roadbed (synthetic felt soundboard) which is extremely quite but trying to find the best glue for the Ballast.
Here I'm beveling the edges for the roadbed

Weekly Photo Fun September 23-30, 2018
I have had a Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 since the first run, and was at one point going to make it a Pacific Coast Railway loco. The Pacific Electric would lease steamers all the time from their parent road, the Southern Pacific. The PE also owned a handful of 0-6-0's, and these were the only Pacific Electric lettered steam locos. I decided today that needed to be changed.
The real 2716 had a Vanderbilt tender.

Silver Streak Bobber (was: Removing letters from wood)
So I have this "Silver Streak" wood bobber caboose, in the "Ma & Pa" scheme... I want to keep the colours of the wooden sides, I just want to remove the "Maryland and Pennsylvania" lettering, while preserving the red paint (I don't want to have to try to match the paint)
Any tips on removing lettering from a wood side kit?
This is the kit:

CNR new nose herald on FA2s
Does anyone know when Canadian National Railways introduced the new nose heralds on their FA2s? And when did they remove the external bell on the roof?

Air brush tip
I recently purchased a Paasche VL airbrush as an replacement for my Paasche “H” airbrush. The new airbrush came with three needles and tips (#1, 3, and 5). My question is for general airbrushing (locomotive shells, buildings), which size tip should I us to obtain best results?
