Use Descriptive Thread Titles please.

See how I did that?  The title gives you a good idea what the post is going to cover.  I'm guilty myself of not using descriptive descriptions but I'm trying to do better.  If we uses descriptive titles it makes it easier for viewers to decide to read (or not) your posts.  It also makes it easier to find things using the search function.

Here are some examples of poor / better titles:

weighting freight cars

I want to add weight to my freight cars for better running on my layout. I. Found a battery operated digital kitchen scale with a weight limit of 11 pounds at my local Aldi's food mart for only $9.99. Thought others might like to check this out if you have an Aldi near you.

Substitute for Floquil on wooden models?

Recently I exhausted my supply of Floquil boxcar red.  I tried using Scalecoat 1 on a wood model. Although Scalecoat 1 on brass models gives beautiful results, I am disappointed with the resultant finish when used on wood.  I won't use it on wood again.  Floquil gave gorgeous results on wood surfaces, even when brushed on, and I would like to continue duplicating such fine results.  Has anyone found a reasonable substitute for Floquil?

Width of a main street

Hi everyone,

I'm building a main street in my town which will have 2 running lanes and 1 parking lane for a total of 29' in width or 4" in HO scale. (engineering background and fact checked).

My question is this, my intention is to build it to scale, but I was told to use compression to 3” – 3 ½” for the looks. What is right, 4” or compression? I know it’s my layout and I can do whatever pleases me, but is there a norm?

Question on the Model Power Sale to Lionel and MRC

So, I saw mentioned in the October MRH that Lionel is buying up Model Power/Mantua tooling from a company called ATI and I'm exceedingly confused, because I thought that MRC owned the Model Power Assets. Their website certainly suggests they own Model Power and Mantua. So what's the deal here? Are there different parts o the Model Power/Mantua assets at play?

Using Model Railroad Techniques in Other Hobbies

I ended up using my weathering tool and techniques over the weekend but not for something very typical, I used it to make some props from a video game I play called Fallout while a very different thing it used the exact techniques as model railroading so what hobbies overlap for you guys?

Modelling Track - Weathering

Just putting up some of my track samples. Trying to find 3-4 good track formulas. I'm using Valjero pigments, paints Airbrushing doing dry brushing and Washes. Its getting confusing to what looks right and looks good and sort of prototype looking where it of course doesn't look too …well you know  ...too educational.

Optivisor

Hi everyone,

The #1 item on my wish list right now is an Optivisor.

On their website, they list an Optivisor and an Optivisor LX I couldn't really see any difference!

Any one have either one?

Also, I'm wondering if the lighted Optivisor provides decent lighting?
