Modeling general discussion

Whats on your workbench - Oct 2018
Figure I'll get this started (sine I have something to show... in the comments, of course)
1/72 Scale Narrow Gauge Modeling
Found this idea on the net but was written up in Kalmbach's "Model Railroad Planning 2018". The issue featured Doug Tagsold's Colorado & Southern. The premise is using HO gauge equipment to represent 1/72 scale narrow gauge.
For those who like operating switching layouts...
.....I came across this today and thought some of our readers might find it of interest. It is called an "app" but really is more of a program that gives timings for various operations whilst carrying out switching operations. I will be interested to hear others comments

Dcc engine on DC
I have a Bachmann sound value gp7 that i run on a dc power pack. It runs and sounds good but going up hill pulling a 8 car train i need to have it on full throttle and the engine crawls up the grade. it sounds realistic and when the grade levels off ican throttle down. When the throttle is on full the headlight is very bright am I going damage the engine?

GP 30 grinding sound
I have an ho scale Bachman Spectrum GP30. It runs quiet until it starts going downgrade. Then theres loud grinding sound and the engine acts likes it gets stuck as it grinds What could be going on?
thank you
The N&W Pocahontas District has shown me the light!
I visited Paul Krentz yesterday and it was a revelatory experience (I'll try to keep the superlatives to a minimum but it will be difficult).
Choosing the right glue for white-metal castings
Hello,
I have several older O-scale "craftsman kits" that include white-metal castings. Some of these are to be assembled into operating trucks. What glue(s) will work well, remain permanent, and be strong enough to withstand the rigors of operation? What glue(s) should be avoided?
Thanks,
Bill
A couple of Shapeways 3D model creation questions
I'm going to try my first attempt at 3D printing using Shapeways... to prove to myself that I can do something like as much as anything else. I'm going to try a gondola extension in HO scale as shown in the attached photo, to mate to a Speedwitch Media DT&I 40' gondola kit (#P119) which is a match for the underlying gondola. The fairly simple geometry and welded construction of the extension seems like it would be a good candidate for my first attempt at a 3D model.

Do you need a table saw to build a layout?
How many of you have a table saw and do you think I can build a model railroad without one?
My kind of charity (Athearn !)

I pre-ordered an EL unit which will benefit the real engine. I also donated $5 online. Not a fortune, but something.
I think this is a good idea, much like the New Haven Society teaming with Rapido.
Delivery is a year away, so there is plenty of time to save $pennies to afford it.
And Athearn is using LED's now which are much improved. The Tsunami 2 also has great sound and features.
