Modeling general discussion

the pain. (NWSL closing)

well from what i have heard and read, NWSL is shutting down.

sad day for everyone. including the owner as his wife has passed away.

i pray some company does pick this up and keep it going, as i am not one who will make them rich, but i do have a number of re-power projects coming on line over the next couple - three years, where i will need NWSL products.

hay kadee hear this. one great company buy's another.

A short look behind the scenes at Roco (YouTube)

This came up in my feed and I thought it's interesting to see a glimpse of production being done in EU (though reading the comments some items are made in Viet Nam apparently).

Rick Wade. Our friend has not been around in quite a while

I reached out to Rick Wade last night because I had not "seen" him around here in quite a while. He replied and informed me that his wife of 38 years Midge had a massive stroke on Dec. 23 and it has been a very difficult time. Midge is at home now and needs Rick's 24 hour care in her battle to regain her former abilities.

Rick said that it was OK to let the forum members know why he hasn't been around and said:

Color Temperature

The color temperature of your light source will definitely effect your perception of the color of your models. We often hear the recommendation to match the color temp of our light source at the modelling bench to that of the railroad.  It's interesting that most light sources only give a very general indication of the color temp, such has "daylight" or "tungsten."

Grandt Line Sold

Figure this is old news to some, but I just learned of it elsewhere: Grandt Line has been purchased by San Juan Car Company. SJCC purchased the entire line except for the "Miniature Kits" portion.

I wish them the very best and I hope they will have the products I'm going to be needing over the next few years.

Help establishing value of live steam equpment

I am not looking to sell anything on here but I do need some advice on where to get good valuations on some 1:20 live steam. A friend's widow is looking to sell some of his collection. I am trying to help her get honest prices for the stuff. I have no idea where to really look to find the value's of these things. Anyone have any suggestions?

The MFB railroad

Hello: I've never done this before. So bear with me. I am 80 years old, poor vision, slightly shaky. Last July, I was diagnosed with heart trouble. (I'm not here to dwell on that.). But I decided a bucket list was in order. Number One: Build a model railroad. I chose to build a shelf layout in a hallway and room, straight along one wall. I had 26 feet maximum. What equipment, etc. I do have is HO. Felt an 8' board cut in 3 would yield 24 feet long. Leaving a little fudge factor. But cut in 3, gives 16" wide and the hallway is 36".

Mantua Tyco traction tires

Help Please
I am looking for the correct "O" ring sizes for the older Tyco/Mantua steamers such as the 4-6-0, 4-4-0 large driver types and also if anyone knows the size for the 2-6-6-2 ,0-4-0 and 0-6-0's I would appreciate that information also. These would be the engines with the motor in the boiler not the tender.
I can find part numbers but no measurements as to the size, only thing I can find to buy is 2 for 7.50 plus shipping and that's crazy money for two "O" rings.
