Scratchbuilt Flatcar Project
I have been working on scratch building a flatcar in On30 for my Monashee Pass Railway. The car is based on a SP (Southern Pacific) narrow guage prototype. I created the drawing templates below with a CAD program and developed some of my own construction techniques. I also used the article by Russ Watson in the 2008 On30 Annual to guide me along.
Layout Animation Idea
This is a layout animation idea I came up that requires no motors and actually uses the trains momentum to power it. The idea I came up with uses a flat gear (rack) on the track and a gear sticking out from below the car. When the car passes over the rack gear it would move the animation. With varied rack length and teeth on the pinion (round gear) you could have almost limitless possibilities. I would try this myself but have two problems:
1. No available gears
2. I do not have a car to "butcher" and cut a hole in the bottom of.
[GMWS] Cheap Water
Does anyone know of cheap water for model railroads since our club had little to no budget. If you know of a source or how to make some yourself please let me know. Thanks for your help and don't forget to check our club topic page- http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/22436
LED color question
Hi I am back with another question this one about the color you recommend for LED lighting. I will most likely get the rolls and am not sure what the best color is. If you could share your opinions below that would be great. Thanks again to all of you.
[GWMS Model Railroad Club] Help With Yard
Well I am looking for help now with some wiring. I am working on getting a switch module (see image). We will most likely be making a yard module and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for blocks. The yard blocks would be separated by track and run by the sam power pack as their respective tracks. If we were running DCC this wouldn't be a problem but we have DC if anyone could help please do. Thanks in advance, Trainmaster247.
Hobbybench you can build.
Woodsmith Magazine has plans for a great hobby bench. It is the latest issue #219. If you are a woodworker or know of one this would be a great bench to build.
Need Coupler Advice on Trix Big Boy
I am hoping to get advice from our resident experts in Kadee coupler options and/or coupler advice for an HO scale Trix Big Boy. I pulled this (much-loved) loco from my display case yesterday only to find the tender's coupler missing. After much panic & with extraordinary luck, I found the missing coupler. It is one of the Marklin/Trix pull-out variety which will require some crazy glue when I do final re-install. However, the original equipment coupler's height is FAR TOO LOW to provide reliable operation.
Car card boxes on curved fascia
I am beginning to design fascia-mounted car card holders and many of them need to be at locations where the fascia is curved (1/8" Masonite). I have seen many designs of card card holders that work beautifully on straight fascia. But what about curved fascia? My fascia radii are about 15-30".
Scribing and cutting the back of the holder to match the fascia radius sounds tedious and fraught with peril. I'm hoping many of you have other ideas.

Hi I am sure most of you have seen my past posts on the Model Railroad Club and had a suggestion to combine them all into one so this is where I will move all past posts and future ones so they can be easily found. If anyone has any other suggestions feel free to post them in the comments or PM me thanks again to all of you people who have helped and are following my posts.
