SPEV Layout Designing

One of my other hobbies is Model Rocketry, and sometimes people design a rocket out of spare parts:

SPEV stands for Spare Parts Elimination Vehicle.  I've built a few rockets out of odds and ends--leftover balsa, tubes, nosecones-- and it can be fun coming up with something out of what's at hand:

CPR's Nelson BC Station

This model is now complete and joins the crowded ranks of Nelson station models.

6 months of hobby time - well, life took a month out of that - but its done.  I learned a ton!!  Should you have questions, please fire back.  (I am contemplating a clinic on its build for next May's Railway Modeller's of BC Meet in Vancouver and will definitely put one on if there is demand)

North Coast Limited

The North Coast Limited. Growing up in Montana, we took countless trips from Montana to Chicago on the North Coast Limited. I loved the Lowey paint scheme and wondered how I could have those colors show up on my freelance railroad as I do connect to the Northern Pacific. Years ago I picked up an Athearn Genisis F-7 and some Walthers passenger cars in the Lowey paint scheme and used it as a tourist train from Logan, Mt down to West Yellowstone, MT to take tourist to Yellowstone National park.

What is the paint on a Branchline passenger car?

I have 3 Branchline passenger cars that are painted yellow and gray for Union Pacific. I want to remove the red car name and replace it with a different name. On other models I have successfully removed car numbers with 91% alcohol. I tried it on one of the car sides and the yellow paint around the car name came off beautifully sad and left the car number intact.

Recommended airbrush how-to video for beginners?

Hi All:

I'm looking for a link to a good and thorough how-to video for using an airbrush. This would be a soup-to-nuts, set-up; use; clean-up video.

Shameless self-promotion is encouraged.

Thanks! I'm using an Iwata-Medea Eclipse HP CS Dual-Action Gravity Feed (below).

Rail Safety 1914.

A railway safety film from Pacific Electric Railway, circa 1914. Quite possibly the first "safety film" ever. (okay, probably not, but...)

Mounting Walthers trucks on a TSP core kit

I have this ex-Southern RPO now retired Amtrak baggage car AMTK 1127 that I built with a Train Station Products core kit and Union Station Products car sides. The walthers trucks aren't a direct fit so I'm looking for ways to mount them. The bolsters on the TSP floor aren't tall enough to support the trucks which have a sort of countersunk mount. What sort of fixes have you guys found for this? Thanks in advance.

The Bridge to Nowhere

The only part of my Flin Flon layout I kept was the big bridge scene. I had built it to be moved and I am happy to say it survived the 1400km journey.

Bridge 1

This weekend I built a stand for it and got it out of its shipping crate I made. I was very pleased to see it was all intact. I had taken off a lot of small details before the move so once I figure out which box I put them in I can add them back to the scene.

Plexi Fascia

I wanted to go with Plexi Fascia Board around the layout to keep derailments from hitting the floor, keep my 2 year old's hands away from anything breakable, etc. Does anyone know where I can get precut plexi? I have seen 10 inch tall x 6ft on layouts online and in tech booths at churches. I didn't want to have to get a 8ft x 4ft sheet and cut it myself if possible.

Here are examples  I have found online:
