Weird question about Masonite
I am going to build two 2x6 foot TOMA modules. I am inspired by Joe's September Publisher's Musings where he showed this:

SMA26 Revised TwinT Block Detector for DC and DCC Train Detection
I rarely run with DC train control. Yes, certainly in bench testing and on a test loop I will exercise DC models, but my focus is on DCC control, for the most part. Recently, I had an impassioned request for help with block detection on a DC layout, with a specific request to use the “venerable” Twin-T detector circuit. It led me down a path that I did not expect, and to this report, that may be of interest to modelers
.

Athearn ATH90616
Okay, so, I have an early Proto 2000 BL2 (1989?) that I have running great in DC now (replaced the gears on that one too!) and I am about to attempt to make it DCC. To make life easier on myself, I bought an Athearn ATH90616 PC board, so I can just plug in one of my spare 8 pin decoders, until I can afford to buy a nice sound decoder (probably a Digitrax, because I'm addicted to those things) thus a board, instead of just hard wiring a decoder in.
So the Athearn ATH90616 board came in the mail today, and... no directions!
Squeaking in brand new Athearn Genesis GP9 HO-Scale
I got a brand new Athearn Genesis GP9 Rio Grande Phase II 5913 (G62459), in DC.
I tested it in DC and it worked beautifully.
I converted it to DCC using a Tsunami 2, that was no problem, I've done that before many times.
A few days later as I was done weathering it and I put the shell back, I noticed the engine squeaking when I ran it on my test track. I isolated the squeaking issue to be in the motor/flywheel assembly, here's a video showing it clearly:

Filling a gap at a rail joint
A friend is building a layout. He's challenged with severe arthritis so a couple of us have been helping him. I can't do as much as I'd like because I have a job and others are retired. The gentleman laying his code 100 flex track is 84 and has some health issues. Suffice to say that some of the track laid is a little rough. One location on a curve we were getting constant derailments.
Middle school model railroad: Irons in the fire
Based on the material posted in this blog I put together a slideshow/talk and have had the pleasure and the privilege to share it at model railroad conferences and conventions over the past 14 months.
CLUB LAYOUT POSTING
I know there are a lot of club layouts out and about. In the summer I happen to be in New England where my house is. In the winter I like to get in the motor home and head south to “no shovelin’ “ country. I’ve heard Rob from Texas say he wants me to see a long coal train run and I’ll bet the gentleman from Jackson, Mississippi might let me in to see his club layout too. I’ll bet there are other club layouts that would welcome a stranger (model railfan) needing a model railroad fix.
