Eye Bleed with Code 83 Turnouts
Hello folks. I am here writing for a friend whom doesn't do the internet very well due to his injuries ( Veteran ). We have been reading till our eyes have bled out about the HO different code styles of rail. Kurt has pretty much decided on code 83 as he has nothing in a box to start from. We have been reading about 20-25 threads here about rail codes and different brands of turnouts. I have zero experience with HO so Kurt and myself will have to rely upon your expertise.
How do I get rid of LED flicker when in DC reverse mode?
I recently added flat top 12v LED's to two of my diesel locos and they are great except for one thing, they flicker when the engine is in reverse. These LED's came with resistors already installed which was a time saver but now if I wanted to add a reverse protection diode it would be almost impossible to do without destroying the LED. While searching for the answer to this problem, I came across the following circuit on this list and am wondering if this will work to eliminate the reverse flickering?
Fence lines
Many railroads were required to fence their right-of-way. Here is my simple method.
Posts are split from bamboo skewers and then dyed. Corner post and un-split.
A gauge is made to space the post from the rails and between posts, see photos.
Use an awl to poke a hole in the scenery to start the post, then use a stepped block to push the post down to the desired height.
I find it is not necessary to model the actual wires. Placement of animals and different vegetation will give the impression that the wires are there.
SOO Line F Units
To All: Two SOO LINE F Units I detailed, painted, weathered and dull coated. They are the old Bachmann. I used rrpicturearchives.net for photos to do these units. Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout.

Scales of narrow guage trains
Could someone give me a quick refresher course on these 'narrow gauge' designations? I get confused sometimes.
I see mentioned HOn3, HOn30, On30. On3.....etc
What to do with old track
I picked up at least 200 old ho tracks and switches at a garage sale. It looks pretty dirty and I’d like to clean it up. I know about isopropyl alcohol and q-tips. I don’t see any rust but they look like they’ve been used and then stuffed into a container. I’m new to model trains. I’m really enjoying the fact that we found my father in law’s old 0 gage post war Lionel set with track, switches and cars. I also had a full set of HO trains and track as well as a large assortment of N gage track, cars and switches. Any thoughts
thanks

New Railroad additions to the layout...
Over the last few months I have been researching the Reading's adjoining Railroads.
So after some careful consideration and looking at the addition of two more railroads to add to the operations of the layout, I have decided to add the following to the line-up:

Enhancing HO scale turnouts with magnetic point locking
I have been thinking about how to positively lock turnout points to the stock rail without resorting to powered turnout throws (i.e. Tortoise and others) or commercially available manual throws (i.e. Caboose Hobbies). I especially wanted to “lock” the points in place in my yard and industrial tracks that are within 24” of the layout fascia. I prefer to use a skewer or finger to move the points.
walthers 130 foot turntable with acm
i recently just bought a new turntable from walthers and then also bought a acm , advanced control module, but the problem i have run into is the turntable control box works real good, but having troubles is getting the acm to communicate with the turntable, i have read the instructions ten times , and tried to get it to read in the learn program, it is suppose to jog the bridge when it accepts the program for track number, but i have tried for two days now and cant figure it out, i have a digitrax system if that makes a difference, i am fairly good with electronic boards on layout, bu
Atlas HO HH600 - DCC settings always reset on starting
Hi all,
I am a DCC newbie and have a problem with an Atlas HO HH600 with factory QSI sound.
Every time I place it on the layout it resets back to the default short address 3, and forgets the long address that I set up in the previous session. I also can't work out how to make the headlights directional.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards,
David
