Tempera Paint - Not just for Posters ?

I have run across Tempera paint again in my local Hobby Lobby...it is very inexpensive...about $1.25 for 16 oz. I have read all about powdered tempera, even saw Joe use it and his formula in one or two of his videos, but I am curious if anyone has ever used it in this liquid form ? I searched the MRH forum and came up again with uses of the powdered form...but nothing on the liquid.

Ideas for this look

I'm looking for ideas on how to achieve the look of this reddish grass/weed; whatever it is.

I'd like to put an area like this between my sludge pond and the turntable

A Mining Loco for the Bradford Valley Lumber Company (On30 Scratch-Bash)

I recently decided to add a mining train to my layout, in order to provide a bit more operational interest.  At the moment, there's no 'through traffic' on the layout.  My trains originate at Camp A, then go to either Camps B or C (in staging) or Camp D (on the other side of the layout).  As such, I've decided to expand the backstory of the BVLC slightly, as follows.

Hiding Altas switch machines in the scenery?

I'm not sure what topic category this belongs in, so I am going to post it in a couple.

Does anyone know of a good way to hide Atlas switch machines on a layout?  I've read about several approaches, including hiding in the scenery or mounting under the benchwork.

Do you know of any good ways to hide them in the scenery?  Any techniques that have worked for you, or that you know have worked for others?

Is there a better way to record audio of model trains?

OK you videographers out there - there has to be a way to get better audio when recording model trains with on-board sound. Almost all of the videos that I've watched lately on Youtube or Vimeo have trains that sound like UFOs landing in 1950's science fiction movies. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvxdJkFf2Mo

In person, they sound fine, especially those with the newer speakers, but on video I guess that I'd rather listen to background music.

Ideas anyone?

Help with UR92 LEDs - No power to the track

Hi everyone

I have a DCS210 with a UR92 attached. I have switched it on today to find that the red and green leds on the UR92 are on with them both flashing. I have power to the track but cannot control any locos.

Something must have happened but I can't find anything in the documentation that tells me what might be wrong. As far as I can see, nothing has changed from last night when it was working so I am confused. Any help would be appreciated.

Kadee semi-scale couplers vs. Sergents

This is a follow-up to a Weekly Photo Fun thread discussion that started at http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/32447?page=2#comment-322977 and continued on concerning the merits of Sergent couplers vs. Kadee semi-scale.  Since we were straying from the intent of that thread, I thought I'd start a new topic. See first reply below.

Tru-Color Paints

Tru-Color Paints

I am working on four more locomotives for my freelance railroad. I had painted the previous completed models in Polly S CSX dark future paint. I have found an equivalent shade of CSX dark future with True Color paints.

My question is, since I have only used Polly S, Floquil, and Tamiya, how is the finish and does it air brush well and what paint does it compare best to.

I have used up most of my Polly S and Floquil stock so now I must find another option. Thanks.

What’s on your workbench?

I haven’t seen this thread for a while so thought I’d kick it off with my passenger car bash to make a 49’ Second Class Car:
