Fail-safe a drop leaf

We have a drop-leaf wye that connects to a staging yard and also acts as a wye in a modeled location that had a wye. The leaf spans an aisle, and is actually usually in the 'stowed' position. Previously, there were two ground thrown switches that led to the wye, and it was fairly obvious when things were dangerous. However, recently the area was re-worked, and it turned out to be easy for the swiss cheese holes to line up. I saved a brass locomotive from hitting the floor... but only barely.

Preferred brands for hidden & staging track?

Hello:

I'm fiddling with Anyrail, fantasizing about a greater day with the basement of my dreams. I was wondering what brand/model/etc. of track you all prefer/recommend for hidden trackage? This would include brand/model for mainline track, turnouts (DCC-friendly!), staging, etc.

I'll be using Micro-Engineering, hand-lay, and all kinds of other delicate stuff in plain sight. For the out-of-sight trackage, it just needs to be reliable.

Thanks!

I deserve a donut

A donut plan, that is.

So I have been struggling with coming up with a walk-in plan that has loops big enough to turn my trains around and not have too much hidden trackage.  I'm thinking that a donut plan with a duckunder may be the way to go.

Modifying a chassis

I am kitbashing a Union Railroad "Buffalo" locomotive and, like the real life hyprid, the locomotive needs a long front EMD hood sitting on a Baldwin DRS 6-6-1500 Chassis.  The Bowser model of the latter will give me the chassis and trucks, etc.

Frustrated

Hey everyone.

DCC Question - First DCC "System"

Hi all,

I'm looking at the NCE Power Cab 2 Amp DCC Starter Set for my first DCC "System".

I'm looking to control two locomotives with it and one track switch at the moment.

Thoughts?  The price is "nice".

DCC Question - How to control track switch

Hi all,

Not sure if this question should go in the Newbie area or the DCC area.

I decided it was a DCC topic from a Newbie!  Ha, ha!

I have a very small layout.  It is quite simple as it is my very first one.  It has one track switch in the layout.

What is the "item" that is needed in the DCC world to control that track switch?

I believe I will need to purchase one of these "items".

Thank you,

JR

Gluing problems

I'm trying to assemble a Walthers deck girder bridge. It's unpainted.  For the life of me I cannot get the bottom bracing glued to the side girders.  I've tried Plastruct Plastic Weld and ACC to the parts properly clamped together, but the joint won't stick and it comes apart.  I mean, not even quasi-sticking together; I remove the clamps and the two pieces just come undone.

Any suggestions before I launch this kit out the window?
