Newbie - Go to DCC directly? Why/Why not?
Hi all,
Well, now I have a table made and a track layout built.
Next I'd like to buy an actual train, ha, ha! ;)
But first I need to decide DC vs DCC.
I'm thinking I might just go right to DCC rather than DC.
Any reasons not to? I'm an IT guy, so I understand the technical stuff pretty quick.
Right now I'm reading a DCC book by Kalmbach.
Thoughts?

Visiting Phoenix Arizona are this coming weekend

I am traveling to the Phoenix/Mesa Arizona area for some vacation this coming week and I will have some time on Saturday to go see Model Railroads, Train Spotting and or visit some hobby shops. Was wondering if members of this forum might have some suggestions for this traveler from Milwaukie, Oregon.

The front on BN SD7's
Just bought a Atlas BN SD7. Did they operate them short hood or long hood forward? I know Great Northern SD7's were operated long hood forward.
Do I Start Over Now While I Can?
Part of me (thanks to this forum and your awesome layouts) wants to abandon my current layout and instead go for something more like a "shelf layout" I have enough space to do an L shape or P shape so its more looped where one wall is 6ft and the other 20ft.

Hi All,
Been lurking here at MRH for many years and enjoy reading the site. I'm about to start a few different sections of a new layout at home and thought I'd "blog" the updates here since the feedback and interaction is part of what makes it fun. But first I figured I'd do a quick intro of where I came from and where I (think) I'm going. :)

There hasn't been a podcast in over a week... is everything okay? Was it preempted by the Olympics?
(now I'm imagining Model Railroading as an Olympic sport... I wonder what that would be like?)
Operating the Port of Green Bay
I attended a wonderful operating session yesterday on Andy Laurent’s Port of Green Bay. In attendance were Andy, me, Colin O’Brien, Clark Cooper, and Steve Malcolm.
NCE 102-EU decoder
I installed a NCE decoder on my sd40t-2 athearn HO. I want to have a mars light function. Its a Rio Grande. I have a light only wired to the nose. No other lights. Can someone help with this? whats the CV'S I need? Thanks
Cleaning weathered rail
I have some Micro Engineered with pre-weathered blackened rail.
What is the best way to remove the black from the top of the rails without scratching the rail. I don't want to use a bright boy or other abrasive methods.
