Cleaning Magnifier Lens

I have a desk top magnifier that the lens really needs a wash job. I have used one of those eye glass cleaning cloths on it and that helped, but it needs something more to get years of crud off. I have a cloth bag to cover it with, but that is a new addition.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Repowering Athearn Old style blue box diesels

I have a bleepton of Athearn blue box diesels. GP 35s 40s and 50s that are average of 20 years old. I’d like to repower them as they are getting worn out. What is the simplest way to do so please? They are DC.

Port Able Lines subsidiary Penvan Railroad

Below I am exhibiting my track plan for a possible switching layout.

US Broad GAUGE MOTIVE POWER.

Did U.S. Broad Gauge RRs (6') use larger (wider) motive power

than standard gauge railroads?

J&M comes into its own

I have been trying to decide which way to go with the J&M and its motive power. Do I leave them as they are, Milwaukee Road? Do i have them repainted as a shortline, such as Michigan Shore? Beautiful red and silver? Or do I make it its own shortline?

Couple of Pictures

This is on country side of the 4X6 layout. The other side is planned as an urban location.

Working on a station kits and will add a post office to this side.

Lots of details to add!

Resetting decoder with keep alive

i fave a Digitrax dcs 1 throttle. I was trying to enter a new Loco number and now when there is power the engine just clicks..

it is a loksound select 73836.

Usually with this decoder I sometimes had to hit f8 to get the sound working - but that is not the case now.

So I think I want to reset the decoder - program cv8-8- the manual says.

But I have a loksound power pack mini on it (a keep alive)

Laser cutting HOn30 rolling stock

Working on some laser cut HOn30 passenger coaches in the style of Glyn Valley/Talyllyn. Anyone else laser cutting kits in this scale have some tips on materials and designing for details/durability? Could also use some direction on a source for hook & loop couplers, buffers and maybe some other small details. Thanks!

IAIS's West End - God loves a culvert

There's a long-running quote among railroad engineering departments:

"The basic rules of bridge building are:

  1. Never build a bridge when a trestle will do,
  2. Never build a trestle when a fill will do, and
  3. God loves a culvert."

Unfortunately, even a culvert can't be accurately modeled when you don't even know it's there...which gives you a clue as to the quandary that I'm now attempting to address.
