Railroad Number Research

I have been doing a bit of research on waybill and watched a few videos. The examples shown in various forms shows an actual railroad number used in identifying a particular railroad. I would like to include these on my waybills. Is there a source to find a specific identifying number for each real life railroad ? The picture included shows where the  numbers mentioned in the videos were located.

Identifying coal hoppers

Going through my books on Canadian railroads during the 50's, I noticed coal hoppers from the US on mainlines and branch lines. Was this common practice? I can't find any CNR coal hoppers in images south of the border.

IAIS's West End - Atlantic depot

The ex-Rock Island depot at Atlantic, Iowa, now housing the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce, is a real landmark of my prototype, and the events of the last few weeks have led me a few steps closer to modeling it.  While I'm sure that completion is far in my future, I thought I'd document the initial planning steps and then come back to this post as I make progress.

More to come in the first post.

Motorised Bridge finally tested and operating

I have finally completed the operational part of my road bridge and have been testing and tweaking it for 3 months and I'm happy with how it is working. This completes one of my laps around the room. So now I can plan my next project but with the quite chuff of a train in the background rolling by.

Placing salt on the tracks is a capital crime!

Just thought I would post this one to make you go hmmmmmm

DIFCO

While vacationing in Minnesota, I spotted a string of DIFCO side dump cars in the Proctor yard. Some time later, I bought a bunch of the Walther's models. Now that I'm finally building a layout, I realize that I don't have a clue about how these cars are used! Can anybody educate me?

Signs on gondolas rarely modeled

I saw this photo from an NKP train and noted the signs on wooden poles on a corner of each gondola. We can't tell what they say but it's not something you see modeled very often.

Anhydrous Tank Cars for 1978 era

I don't reach out for help much but I need to now. I don't know much about tank cars for hauling anhydrous and liquid fertilizers for the late 70's and in particular 1978. I have several Atlas 11,000 gallon tank cars listed for Anhydrous (Barrett, Olin, Mathieson, Spencer, and so on).
