Looking for Passenger car

Hi, Jack from Star, Idaho.  I need some help.  I have been putting together a Southern Pacific streamline Daylight passenger train.  Not being able to afford the MTH 8 car set, my next option is Athearn.  I have found that the Athearn RTR track really good, nice detail, and affordable.  I am looking for the ATH7963 Vista Dome.  I checked with Horizon Hobbies and they said that they are not sure when they will make another run.  Maybe there is someone out there that may have some for sale or have any ideas where to find some.  I would like

Richlawn RR - The Henderson Building - store front progress

Work continues on the Henderson Building that will find a home in the Hoovertown downtown expansion.  This building will be viewed from approximately three feet - thus the "good enough" principal when it comes to finish.  The ground floor store front is occupied by Pelletier Travel.  The window printing is printed backwards on the rough side (required for printing) of 3M(tm) transparency film.  The travel posters in the windows are printed on card stock that is bowed (curved) to fill the windows and open at the top to allow light from the "light pole"

Need inspiration!

I want to model an aggregates quarry but I need some information about railroad operations in a quarry and some ideas for a possible track plan. I am modeling modern era, H0 scale and my space is 2x9.

My idea is modeling the crusher/loader zone, I have the Walter's Glaciar gravel kit and some ballast hoppers.

The PLAN

One thought leads to another, certain things need to happen first, and then in the wee hours of the morning the Plan is born.

The "Plan" started out simple enough - I wanted to upgrade my control panel from the current Atlas based system to a layout diagram toggle switch style control panel.  To do that properly I decided I should really redo all the electrical - or at least make it less like plastic speghetti

Helix Help needed

I am seeking help with a bit of a construction issue.  I am building a 2 level layout, and with out scrapping the top and lowering the main level to add a 3rd level to get me to the top, and an issue with the no-lix that i wanted to do with a 2.5% grade, and run that along one 14ft wall and have it hit the second level around the other top, which now I don't think will work, with out up-ing the grade, it seems I am left to choice to go a helix route at this time.

Seeking input on yard design with intermodal

This is my first layout (HO). At this time I don't have much interest in operations but I want to plan for it in case my interests change as I learn more about the hobby. My yard will include an intermodal section which is where I have to make a choice; a shorter double-ended section with access from the main yard (Example 1 in the attached PDF), a longer single-ended section (Example 2) or a medium-length double-ended but with no access to the main yard (Example 3). The parallel tracks in the main yard are about 8'. The intermodal section in Example 1 is about 4' long.

Ghost River Scratchbuilds

Below is a photo of the most recent additions to the Ghost River Rwy.

Both structures are scratchbuilt, including the ladder,  with scale wood cut in my shop. The only commercial items are the pulleys, the spout (a straw), bolt detail and the counterwights (spru). More service detail and a small cabin still need to be added to the scene. A wood burning Climax is the loco assigned to Camp 1, hence the need for the wood shed.

Southern Pacific HO Daylight

Hi Jack from Star, Idaho.  I received my MTH Cab Forward yesterday and I am really pleased with the loco.  I want to pull a Southern Pacific Daylight passenger just because I love the looks of that train especially pulled by the cab forward.  I am debating if I want to spend the money for the MTH eight car set or try to find something cheaper.  I do have a NP Rapido that is great, and an Athearn RTR heavy weight NP passenger.  The Athearn pulls really nice but lacks the lighting and interiors.  However, Athearn has discontinued production of the SP Dayl

Fascia Installation

Probably not the sexiest post about a model railroad but yesterday was a GREAT train day for me.  With the long weekend coming I had a slow workday and was able to get my fascia almost entirely installed!  The table saw made quick work of the masonite sheets (I got it for my birthday in October and I'm embarrassed to say this is the first time I got around to using it!) and it was attached with 18 ga. 5/8" brads so filling holes will be a breeze!
