Request for help on hopper slope sheet color

I am working on a small fleet of porch hoppers that the Missabe once had to move commercial coal.  I am certain the end slope sheets, and perhaps the sides as well, had little paint left on them due to the abrasion of the loads.  I would like to find a photo or two that clearly showed what the inside of a hopper looked like – color-wise.

I would have thought with all my ore car photos, I would have had a picture of something similar, but I don’t, and I couldn’t find anything in MTW or Google images – my first resorts for stuff like this.

A video tour of the Willamette & Pacific (OE Branch)

Okay, last month I ordered a little "keychain" video camera from an outfit in Hong Kong. I figured for <$12 it was a reasonable gamble. It finally got here on Saturday (and I got it when I checked the mail on Sunday...). Charge it up, put it an Micro-SD (they call it TF) card that I had sitting around, and it's off to the railroad...

Book Reviews-Island Timber and Mountain Timber

I've spent the last few months reviewing these two books and find more useful information each time I open a cover. Though these two books are detailed histories of logging in the Comox area of Vancouver Island, the methods used would apply just as well to Washington or Oregon coastal logging. For anyone interested in west coast logging they would be a valuable reference. The text leans heavily towards local history and the people, but it is the pictures and diagrams that are of special interest to a model railroader.

Glueing clear window

I am replacing all the windows of my Galloping Goose. The simply do not look good to me. So I cut up some clear film I keep from various sources.  My question is what are the suggested glues to hold this without fogging or damaging the  film.  The windows will be flush to frame and not mounted from behind. I've cut all the wiindows with precision.

Exact Rail SP Bay Window Caboose. . .

I just received this email from Exact Rail, regarding their intended release of the the HO SP Bay Window Caboose.  The project got cancelled.  RATS!  At leaset Athearn will be coming out with this one.

If I remove "contact" from the URL there isn't an error but I do not see a way to see the private message.

Ballard Locks and Bascule Bridge

Nearing completion is an area of my layout that has an impression of the Ballard locks in Seattle and the Bascule bridge that crosses the waterway. Of course as many of us come across, the prototype size of this area is too big to model to scale even in N.

Drawing conventions and notations for panel design -- how to start

My layout is reaching the point where I am starting to think of how I want to operate it. Have been playing a bit with JMRI and looked at TrainController. But I am finding it a bit difficult to convert my track 'plan' into the symbolic arcs of the style I see in example control panels. Can anyone suggest sources of inspiration and documentation conventions that could help me on the way?

Yard Design

I believe I have finally settled on a yard design off the main with an engine facility and caboose track. Your comments are appreciated. The layout is a single track, point-to-point with emphasis on switching (1940's - 1950's) with steam and early diesel.

Etching glass

I'm always impressed by the range of knowledge here.  My club wants to etch lettering and a logo onto a glass door panel. Is there a process that will let us either do this with the door in place (preferred), or else let us do it with the door removed and placed flat?
