83 vs 100 in helix

Other than cost, is there a reason why one would use code 100 in a helix when 83 is the rail size entering and exiting the helix?

Just started

Today, having the day off, I started working on my layout. I was so excited to have finaly started. I did not sit and make a track plan on paper, it's all stored in the head... We'll have to see by end of day what it looks like.

Log Cabin for Camp 1

I've found that I enjoy building structures from scratch, starting with cutting my own scale wood. This cabin is an experiment to try out different techniques. Most of the wood I cut is either cedar, fir, or hemlock. I have been able to get sizes down to 6" using my bandsaw. For 2x4's and 2x6's I'm experimenting with strips of veneer which seems to be the right thickness. I'm also making shakes out of the veneer.

Two Ideas for MRH Click and Spins

I was just listening to the podcast with Joe Fugate, and I thought of two ideas for click and spins.

1) You could try and alter the click and spin technology so you would be able to take a picture of every single part of the layout and stitch them together to a large panorama picture. This would allow you to put something like a click and spin box where you could pan across the entire length of the layout, showing everybody every single inch for further inspection. Of course, this would only work for small to mid-sized layouts.

DCC Experts, CV1 not reading?

DCC Experts! I have a Boradway Limited AC6000 (well 3 actually, but), with Paragon 2 sound/DCC... I programmed it last fall with a SPROG II and JMRI. It ran fine. I took it out of the box on Sunday, ran it back & forth, testing some new track. It ran fine.

I decided I wanted momentum effects, and programmed a vale of 20 into both starting & stopping.

Yard Design 2

Hopefully this is a better design, given that your comments made a lot of sense. There are a few comments and concerns:

Backdrop help

What do you guys recommend as the best way to get a nice layout backdrop for an artistically-challenged modeler who can't draw a straight line with a ruler?

I've noticed Backdrop Warehouse is an MRH sponsor. Are they my best option for a non-artist, or do you guys recommend something else?
