Question regarding my Walthers "Chief" pasenger cars.

I have several of the older passenger cars that represent the Chief. I have noticed that they seem to have trouble rolling free. What is the best way to deal with the problem?

Symtoms include.... Squeeking, tightness in the bearings... actually that is about it.

Just thought I would pose the problem to the experts.

Ro Ro Elevator Track Alignment -- Any interesting approaches?

Due to the limited space allotted by management for my layout, I am using a Ro-Ro elevator as my off-layout fiddle yard. The discharge end faces into a corner and a curved and elevated section of track bends around to meet it. The entire 7x10 layout is on teflon feet so it can be slid out to service the wall-mounted heat pump and seasonally accessed windows. This has been an interesting design challenge all by itself.

DYI Paint Booth

I'm renovating an old cold storage room as my model train workshop room.

Before I frame in one of the outside walls, I want to put in a vent for a future airbrush spray booth (yet to be built or bought).  I am planning on using a 2" plastic pipe - have some left over from a recent furnace installation - the pipe is used to vent my new high efficiency furnace.  I see most paint booths use a 4" aluminum pipe commonly used to vent your clothes dryer.

Easy Model Railroad Inventory Upgrade

Version 3 is now available to download for our site. Some of the changes/fixes are:

Track modeling and roadbed choices

I've decided to use code 70 for my entire, soon to be started, layout.  Have already done a fair bit of research and decided on handlaying, using CVT tie strips, ME rail, and CVT turnout ties (twist strips).  I've also ordered Proto87 nickel silver frog kits as the CVT ones get less than favorable reviews.

This will be in HO scale modeling the Milwaukee Road transition period from steam to diesel in Wisconsin.

Animation

Thought some of you might enjoy these animations. How people came up with these ideas amazes me.

Need some tool advice

I need some advice on tools - I hope I put this in the right place on the forum.  I will be modeling in HO scale Since my needs are many, but funds are small, I need to make good informed purchases.  So I need to tap into the collective wisdom of the forum.

Matching decoders to locomotive/brand and whether or not to add on sound later vs. upfront

Has anyone ever made a chart matching decoders to brand/type?  And, if I were to put D13SRJ into everything and then add sound later, would I be making a reasonable move?

With regard to adding sound later, does anyone have suggestions?

I'm using Kato, Genesis, Spectrum, and even a Rivarossi Big Boy that I thought about converting.  All would have to be hardwired and none (or very few) are plug and play.

Thanks,

Brendan

CAN NOT READ CV ==HELP!

I just installed a NCE  power pro radio on my layout. As suggested, a program track is on place. However, a new Atlas mp15 HO does not want to be programmed, either on main nor program track. In the NCE  book, there is some confusion about how to wire the program track, be it separated from main, or linked with a dpdt switch.

Any advise ?

Simplifying layout design - Lake Country Railroad

Hello again!  Based on feedback that I have received from a few of you, I have looked at my design and my space to see what I can do to simplify things.  I have decided to merge the staging deck on to the yard deck.  There will now be only two decks, one at 56" and the other at 36".  The lower deck is pictured here, as is a detailed view of the staging area.  Any thoughts you have are always appreciated.  I will post a more detailed yard picture in a few days.
