Shinohara H0n3

I'm in the planning stage of my H0n3 empire (ahum, a man can dream, right?) and looking around for track. I'm still not sure what to use. It looks like Shinohara is the only track available over here. Is it recommended or should I stay away from it?

The Dearborn Industrial Track

Made another blog post today about my proto-freelanced modern day Detroit Terminal railroad. Today's topic was the Dearborn Industrial Track.

As always, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

The age old question, how high for the layout?

Right now my new single deck HO layout is at 55 inches for the "0" level of trackage.  That's armpit/chest high for me. I set this height after looking at examples of and reading about other peoples layouts.  I have to sleep on it a bit but right now that seems just a tad too high.  I doubt I will lower more than a couple of inches if I do it at all but I thought I'd get some opinions here.

Turnout Radius

Is there a source that provides the radius for various turnouts? Specifically I am looking for specs on the Atlas N Code 55 turnouts. Thanks

Code55 track and turnouts

I am starting a small steam layout where my workbench and paint booth is located. Will code 55 rail work reliably with RP25 wheels? Does anyone make buildup  code55 turnouts?  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Atlas Model RR forum is closing

http://forum.atlasrr.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=70635

I'm not a member of the forum, but I do occasionally find references to discussions there when looking for information.  I am glad to read that Atlas wants to dedicate their resources to developing new products, and look forward to what they come up with.

Also, maybe that will mean more people over here!  Good for Atlas, good for MRH, good for everybody.

Progress on the Housatonic Railroad in N scale + Quick Video

Here's a quick cell phone video showing some progress on my N scale Housatonic RR.  I just got the phone and tried a test video.  I am sorry about the poor lighting and depth of field issues, as this was my first attempt at a video.

LCRR - Staging Trackplan

The staging area on a model railroad serves many roles.  It's primary role is often the topic of conversation between fellow model railroad enthusiasts.  The staging area on my model railroad will serve multiple purposes.

Working bell on Blackstone K27

Those interested in seeing a HOn3 Blackstone K-27 with a working bell swinging in sync with the ringing (Tsunami sound) can see this locomotive at the Mid-Atlantic Narrow Gauge Group (MANGG) meeting to be held mid May -

Here is the link to the meeting -

This loco is the first with a working bell to be in the USA.

Looking for layout comments

I am modeling rail in a Northern Michigan county (Crawford) circa 1890 to 1905.  There are four towns: Grayling, the county seat with a population of about 1000, plus Frederic, Lovells and Lewiston (all smaller).

Grayling was a division point for the Michigan Central RR so there is a roundhouse and maintenance facility as well as the freight/ passenger depot.  There is also an icing platform and ice house.
