Modeling a power plant

I am wanting to add a small power plant to my layout and I'm looking for some pointers on how to model one.  I have two options for the bench work.  Option one would be built along the wall and would be roughly 12 inches deep by 8 feet in length.  Option two would be built on a peninsula and would measure 2 feet by 6 feet.

I'm looking for some helpful hints on how to pull this off.  If you have some Trackplans or photos that you would like to share, that would be extremely helpful!

N/O Photocells for Train Detection

So the plan is to build a helix which may span two rooms: a non load bearing wall will be installed to separate the train room from the rest of the basement; however, to conserve ~10 sq. ft. of space, I've decided that about half the helix will lie within the train room while the other half will cross into the rest of the basement and be finished off (with viewing windows) to "blend in".

Onboard animations

I'd like to share my latest creation being an On3 (O scale narrow gauge 3 foot) AMS C-16 loco with a trio of working animations.

The bell works and has a tiny toothbrush motor driven by a TCS FL4 (Function Lighting) decoder in the cabin roof. The FL decoder is programmed (Decoder Pro) to F1 (bell) the same as the Tsunami sound decoder so by pressing F1 both the Tsunami and the FL decoders activate the bell ring sound and the bell swinging movement.

Jake's Abattoir gets a new siding

Was poking about on the old interweb the other day and ran across a rather informative website about how a slaughter house ships and receives freight by rail.

It made me realize that Jake's, while not a huge mainline kinda' operation definitely needed some extra trackage.

How best to "operate" this plan??....

I'm a good ways away from any sort of operation on my new HO venture but operations are on my mind anyway because I think they will have some bearing on the final configuration and theme of the railroad. I'd like to start a discussion here and hopefully get a lot of input.

Wanted: NWSL 64-4 Quarterer II

I'm looking for a 64-4 Quarterer II by NWSL, if anybody knows of a far off place with one still on their shelf...

Thanks.

Beginners question

Hi all

I'm just starting in this hobby. Models like Bachmann Baldwin 2-8-0 Consolidation, Bachmann USRA 0-6-0 w/Slope Tender, Bachmann ALCO 2-6-0, Athearn 2-8-0 Consolidation or Athearn 2-6-0 Mogul are affordable models to get started but will they run on code 70 or 55 track. I'm thinking of hand laying track.

I'm going for the DCC versions if available. How do they run in general?

English is not my first language and therefor there can be some spelling mistakes. My apologies.

Union Pacific Express Service Boxcar

i'm looking for an HO-scale, union pacific express service boxcar (painted harbor gray/armour yellow) bx-50-25.  i've searched the internet and found plenty of O-scale, but no HO.  the cars were used in conjunction with high speed passenger trains moving fresh produce.  i have one car (#9228) and have looked at the car for any kind of indentifying company marks, but found nothing.  any assistance would be appreciated

GLW Freight House

After the interest Kelly's Corner generated, I decided to blog the photo of the last structure that was evaluated for my NMRA Structures AP. When this structure was given a Merit Award, I had all six required merit Awards. Now I need to get 5 more structures finished and verified.

It is 97% scratch built. It has been installed on the PebbleCreek M R C layout in South Bend, although its photo not shown on the club's web site yet.
