Modeling topic

What I have been missing.
Hobbyist Railroad Magazines Web Site that's what.
I have been receiving the Hobbyist Magazine since it started. I never ever check out it's web site until yesterday.
I will be playing catchup for a while going back and reading various forums some other content.
I think I'm going to enjoy this.
See ya

The Willoughby Line - New Layout website
Fellow Modelers,
I thought some of you might enjoy my new site about my layout:
It took awhile, but I think I fixed all the bugs.
Thanks for looking,

Joining in the MRH 120 Day Challnge The 3 Stall Rico Engine House 1930 - 40
I took my time deciding just which project of over 300 I have planned for My Rio Grande Southern RR Circa 1930-40 I wanted to start first. Some of the structures I have planned will take 1 to 2 years to scratch build others only a few weeks.
Looking for USRA 0-6-0 Switch engine
I am looking for a USRA 0-6-0 switching engine. My top choice of features include: Made by Weaver or Atlas, O-gauge, 2-rail, CB&Q marking.
I can bend of some of these requirements.
Walthers transfer table
Anyone have any experience or ideas about incorporating the Walthers transfer table into a layout design? I am thinking of a small HO layout (about 3 x 8 ft) that focuses entirely on the engine servicing facilities.

Doing Details - Retention Pond Overflow
As part of the 120 day challenge I'm trying to complete the mountain on my railroad. The section that I'm working on has a retention pond and I remember a overflow pipe in a retention pond near my old home. I don't have a picture of it; however, the image is still strong in my mind so I'll be modeling from my "mind's eye".
Switching hidden staging yards
OK, this is partially operations and partly layout design. I am considering having a staging yard that's hidden. In fact, it would be just a foot underneath the main (visible) yard, so it cannot be realistically switched in place. As such I think it's only viable for, well, staging. How does everyone else switch the trains to make up the staged trains? Just use one of the visible yards in a non-operating session?
matching yard and main level
I'm about to lay the track in my yard and engine terminal. Basically I have a 4x8 (don't scream) dedicated to the engine terminal, with the main and a yard curving across a quarter of it. My quandry is that the main will be going through on cork roadbed, but I was intending to lay the yard tracks flat on the plywood. What is a reasonable way to match the level of the yard tracks, which would be around a half an inch lower than that of the main up on the cork?

Test successful!
This weekend I got around to finishing up the tail track so that I could run a train across the module and verify that all the feeders and trackwork was OK. I found one loose feeder, possibly caused when the module set fell off the sawhorses in the garage. The other problem was one turnout with a sticky point. I got both those taken care of and shot a little video of the first train here:

Rena's Tavern and Art
Inspired by the GLW Freight House, I spent some fun hours building Rena's Tavern and Art. The structure started as a Woodland Scenes kit. Years ago, when I still had hair, I built a similar kit on my first layout. Building this one brought back fond memories. Hope you enjoy...
