Building a foldable yard for PNW FreemoN
Another project! The guys in the Freemo group really REALLY want a yard to be able to support some operations. Up until now, we have pretty much been in "proof of concept" mode and getting all the modules bullet proofed. We have attracted some new active participants and now have a pretty decent length of run and variety of industries, and a couple of other yards that are under construction.
Great Train Show - Portland Oregon - PNW Free.Mo.N
Boy Howdy!! What a weekend!!
Wow! Can't believe it was just August
Well here we are in 2015 and I STILL haven't gotten the Coldstor module rebuilt, my supertrees finished, or a whole host of other projects completed. I am not a fan of making resolutions, because life just throws too many curves at you. My focus for the month will be to get my curved passing track module set "presentable" for the Great Train Expo on Jan. 24th. The biggest challenge will be getting the siding I want to add built and installed AND still be able to get some basic scenery over the whole thing.
Re-building the ColdStor module - step by step
Whew! Busy holiday week! I hope everybody had a good one. I managed to climb out of my food induced coma long enough to work on rebuilding the my FreeMoN module this weekend. I took a bit of video illustrating the way I'm going about it.
The first part covers putting together the faceplates for the ends of the modules.
Cool video for Fremo-N yard video
Other than being a really cool portable workbench system, I think the main part with it's flip up table, shelf and rolling storage would make an awesome system to build a Fremo staging yard on top of.
Modular Operations/Tearing it all apart
After the setup in Chehalis, I decided to tear apart my Columbia Coldstor module and completely rebuild it from scratch. If you are interested in seeing the problems and why I wanted to start over, you can watch my YouTube video.
Free_Mo_N in Chehalis
Man, how time flies! I have been busy over the summer with the shelf layout contest build, and haven't really done much with the FreeMo modules. We had our setup at the Lewis County Train Show and Swap Meet this past weekend. This was our first public setup and it was a LOT of fun and generated quite a bit of interest from the people coming in to see the trains. We were allotted a 10' x 25' area to set up in. It was a bit cramped for the assortment of modules we had attending, but I think we made good use of the space.
Scratchbuilding structures, and track replaced
Today I pulled the Shinohara code 70 flex track off of my two extension modules for the Woodland Fill, and re-laid it with Atlas code 55. I also add some new strain reliefs and tidied up the wiring.
Four months went by quick!
Wow! I can't believe that it was April when I last posted to my blog here. I have been very busy with my layout entry for the Model Rail Radio contest,
I also rode up north to Gig Harbor to visit with Mike Deverell. We had a great visit, running trains and shooting the bull.
I also shot a little video of his layout
