Plywood for Risers

I will soon be needing plywood for riser decking.   I'm definitely going with 1/2" birch plywood but after visiting my local Home Depot I noticed several types: one being a veneer smooth birch for about $38 - 4x8 sheet.   Should I avoid the "smooth veneer top" go with the best "cabinet grade" I can get ?

Extreme diesel weathering ...

Hello everyone.

Hope you enjoy the following images. Hopefully the color looks right as I seem to have an issue with color profile on my end. Let me know how they look on your monitors if you don't mind. This is a sneak peak of some of the Allagash diesel roster, which has recently been weathered. I was really getting tired of looking at a roster of clean locos. it was time to get 'em dirty! I've also included a couple of pics of Atlantic Great Eastern (AGE) Alco RS11s as well. The AGE interchanges with the AGR and we have a run-through agreement.

Bummer and now I'm worried

Just returned form the largest Hobby store in the extended area - Colonial Photo and Hobby in Orlando.

I took a roll of film to drop off (Yes, Joe, the photos your requested are now in for processing, I REALLY hope they turn out). and a list of items to pick up.  Now I will admit that a couple of the item were long shots, but a bottle of stain here I had purchased my last bottle?  And no specific color.

Wiring a Digitrax PC42

I'm wiring a Digitrax PM42 (4 circuit breaker board) and want to know two things. First, what guage wire (stranded/solid) can I use to wire the 44-pin connector? Is 18 g solid sufficient for input and output? Seems the connector has some pretty small soldering tabs for much else. Wondering about signal loss/amperage capability. By the way, I'm using terminal strips to keep wiring organized. Secondly, instructions say to ground the unit to the booster case; however, I'm using an NCE Power Cab instead of Digitrax. What's a suitable ground therefore?

Thanks!

Visit to Plant City Train Depot

This past weekend I went to Plant City, Florida to attend a model train show.  While I was there I went downtown to see the depot and interlocking.  Although this is 1 to 1 scale, they do have an HO scale model railroad layout in the depot.  Below are some of the pictures I took while I was there.

Central Florida Railroad Modelers cab ride

Here's a cab ride around the 1500 ft double mainline layout at the Central Florida Railroad Modeler's cubhouse.  It was shot with an Iphone in an Icar.

Plan A or Plan B?

Hello......

I've negotiated a corner of real estate in a bedroom for a layout and I'm using Scarm to plan the trackplan.

I would like to avoid elevation changes for 2 reasons:

1) My first layout
2) When I had them in an earlier plan they needed to be 3% or 4% grades to get up and over track because of my 'small' space.
