What's a 13' Turn?

Hi,

I'm thinking about to buy the Zephyr Kato N 106090-2 Chicago Burlington and Quincy EMD E5A and Silver Streak. I asked a dealer about the minimum radius and he answered: "The minimum radius is a 13' turn as the tightest turns possible for this set." In Germany we measure the radius in millimeters and I would have understood an answer in inches. But what does a 13' turn mean? 13 ft? That's about 4 meters, that can't be what he means.

Stefan

COMPUTER BACK UP A MUST

Went cruising last week on Disney Magic out of Galveston, the grain elevator and RR tracks are right alongside of ship terminal and I parked my car at Galveston NHRS Museum so that makes this a RR story.

Got home plugged in Computer, NO START, knew that the way it was acting that probably power supply. Monday got it fixed.

While waiting set up laptop and had it set up with backup hard drives to continue on. I downloaded current version of JMRI and restored was ready for big op session on this weekend.

GET A LARGE BACK UP DRIVE AND USE IT. IT IS CALLED PEACE OF MIND.

Dirty ballast in yards

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some suggestions on how to make the ballast in yard/secondary tracks look grimy/oily/dirty as was often the case in the 60's up through even the 80's. Some places almost like the track was laid in an oil or mud pit as opposed to nice clean ballast around it, as you are use to seeing on the mainline. Attached is a photo of what I am talking about. Thanks,

Puzzling performance of Atlas GP-15 with Digitrax replacement board

Hi everyone. I have two N-Scale Atlas GP-15 locos that have Digitrax DN163A4 installed.

One of them performs perfectly but the other has a severely limited top speed. A crawl is about all it will do. I have made no adjustments to either decoder other than changing the address of each. I have checked CV 5 and 6 and both are set to 0 on each loco.

Any bright ideas?

David

Track laying has come to a halt

Today I found out I will not be able to get ties from Micro-Engineering till WHEN??? They could not tell me.

Not a happy railroader today. Anyone know what would be a GOOD substitute.

Detailing an Athearn SP C44-9W (Dash 9)

I've been a subscriber of the MRH site since the beginning, and have enjoyed all the great articles and tips found here. I just started a new project, so I thought it was a good excuse to start a blog about my own modeling experience.

UR91 PROBLEM

I got 2 UR91s that I got hooked up to the layout.  I started having this problem with them both hooked up in the line together, they would stop working on radio.  I would unhook one and the other would work, same with the other one also. Both ID's are the same. I took them both off the layout and hooked them straight into the DCS100 and it would work perfect, same for the other. I hook them back into the layout where they are on the same line around the layout and they quiet working if both are hooked up. I don't know what the problem is, someone know?

Bachmann DD40AX decoder ?

Could anyone tell me what decoder is that's used in the h0 Bachmann DD40AX ( non-sound version) ?

The decoder has the following code on the heat shrink tube: [012CB] which doesn't ring a bell,

the exploded view shows it as  H4915#DCC06 .

Could it be a 44915 ? I wonder because the loco has a 'strobe light' which is driven by the decoder and the 44915 doesn't have that option ?

TIA

cheers, Leo

Meesville

For the citizens of Meesville on my N scale modules I've scratchbuild a diner. A former PRR mikado together with a former NYC heavyweight and a small building for the kitchen makes the 20th century Diner. The hamburger is scratchbuild with Fimo clay and been baked for 30 minutes in the oven smiley The building has to be painted yet.
