A Mini Test layout

The astute observer may have noticed I haven't posted about any layout progress for quite some time, and wondered if this was because I was busily building the Eastborough Industrial, or if I was still waffling.

It's the latter.

I'm happy with the track plan, the only minor reservation I have is Trans Plastics - that's a lot of cars (somewhere around 20) for a medium amount of operating interest.  I've had thoughts of substituting a smaller plastics industry.  But that's not what's holding me up.

DrDuino

Has anyone ordered and used the DrDuino model railroad kit thats being advertised in the links??.  if you have ..is it semi easy to follow and understand??   My cousin is interested in learning about Adruinos for his small layout.  ive tried to teach him.....but im not much of a teacher.   Hes not a MRH member.  Been trying to get him to join.

Railroad Mobius Strip

My layout is a two track, twice-around loop folded over itself. I placed a double crossover between Main 1 and Main 2 to provide access to a yard lead. When the double crossover is reversed then trains cross from Main 1 to Main 2, and upon coming around again from Main 2 to Main 1. The two track main becomes one track.

The layout also incorporates two reversing loops that cross each other. If both loops are reversed then trains do not change directions but traverse both loops.

EMD F7 C&E #1250

Another rebuilt for my N-Scale Cleveland & Eastern Railroad got its finishing touches.

Base model is a KATO F7 A Unit. where I removed the engine room windows, as well as the lower lamp housing on the front. I applied some decent body works by cutting back some lower skirting. I also added a winterization hatch on the last blower.

Soldering No-Ox treated track

I just finished attaching all my feeder wires to the 4 individual buss wires coming into my helix space. And I cleaned all the track with mineral spirits and extremely fine emery type sandpaper.

My thoughts are this is a good time to apply some No-Ox to the tracks in the helix, and leave it set for a week or so before wiping if off (BTW I do know the caution about applying it lightly). My question is if I should eventually decide to put additional feeder wires on some of the track sections, how difficult is it to solder track that's been treated with No-Ox ??

DC wiring test verses DCC final wiring

I've been finishing up my buss and feeder wiring of the lower deck of my layout (and by extension the external helix structure).

Modern railroad served warehouse

Hi all

I'm wondering about the typical floor height in a modern railroad served warehouse.Presumably the warehouse is designed so that forklifts can place loads in the boxcar. Does this mean that there is a platform inside the warehouse at boxcar floor height or will the whole warehouse floor be at the same height?

I'm just about to scratch / kitbash a warehouse so just wondering if I need to put the floor at boxcar level or just closer to the natural ground level.

Setting up with the Sipping and Switching Society of North Carolina Nov. 6-7, 2021

Good evening,

We are heading down from Ohio to Raleigh, NC to set up with the S&SS of NC modular group this weekend.

They have a layout planned that will encompass slightly more than 25,000 sq. ft. of space in the Jim Graham Building, North Carolina State Fairgrounds, Raleigh, NC. 4285 Trinity Road, Raleigh, NC.  This layout is part of the Neuse River Model RR club's show.

Please stop by and say "Hi" if you're able to come to the show!

soundtraxx econami onboard led

Hello all,

Is there a way to disable to onboard LED on a soundtraxx econami decoder via CV setting somewhere?  The light is visible how I have the decoder mounted.  And, no, remounting it is not practical.

If not, any suggestions how to turn it off?  Ideas coming to mind include burning the LED off with a soldering iron or covering it with black tape.

Thanks in advance
