how to make brass toe caps for a dining table leg's feet
I want to make some custom table leg toe caps (covers for the wooden ends of the bottom of a table pedestal). I want to use brass sheet and will need to solder some perpendicular edge joints. I have not soldered brass sheet before so could use some advice on the following:
- type of solder and flux (my web research has pointed me toward TIX)
Design Decisions
When my track plan was finalized I had plans to put signals at the entrance to each CP except for the double crossover at Linden. The double crossover would not fit into the System Table. In addition to the double crossover I had a separate single crossover, a yard lead, and a diverging route to Main 3 and the Linden Branch just west of the double crossover.
I also noticed that the distance between East and West Rapidan, and between AltaVista and North Linden was too short to allow sufficient braking.

Social media and model railroaders
Quite a discussion has developed on the NMRA Magazine thread about social media and the level of modelers who frequent such sites.
Rather than derail the NMRA magazine conversation any further, I'm starting this thread to continue the discussion of social media sites and how they do or do not work for modelers.
I'm picking this conversation up mid-stream, but I hope to get the OT discussion off the NMRA magazine thread.
Signal Documentation
I will collect documentation in the following posts. One of my early challenges was how to name everything that needed naming; blocks, control points, indications, &c.

Project Finished: Custom N Scale Kato F40 in VIA Rail
VIA Rail 6404 runs through the wash area after completing maintenance in the shop and new paint on my layout, The Trenton Subdivision in N Scale.
Just finished this Kato USA, Inc. F40, including modifications to the shell, installing an MRC sound decoder and a full repaint in VIA colours. Decals are from Highball Graphics Decals.

Our Hobby Prices as affected by shipping cost
I have a major concern about how shipping cast from overseas is going to affect both the prices of our model railroad items,...AND their availability.
I recall seeing a posting that talked about the huge increase in container freight coming in from China, but I can't find it now. Those container shipping rates have to be a big increase in our hobby supplies coming in from international shipping (as well as lots of other items), but we are talking RR items here.
And currently we have something like 80 container ships waiting to unload at our west coast ports.
Walthers Coaling Tower Track Spacing
What is the track center-line to center-line spacing between the three tracks for the HO Walthers Wood Coaling Tower 933-2922? Neither the instructions or the footprint diagram has that information.
Same question on the Walthers HO Modern Coaling Tower 933-2903?
Improving your hopper fleet with etched end cages - Slabside edition
I used the recently released Black Cat Decals etched end cages for slabside hoppers to fix up a TLT car. These can also be used on F&C and Sylvan kits as well. More here:

I've been looking for a dynamic brake grid for an EMD switcher such as on the Canfor SW1200 logging engines. Does anyone know of a detail part thats available?
Thank you!
BLI Paragon2 decoders do not drive motor with Keep Alive capacitance?
Has anyone had success with getting a Paragon2 decoder to continue to drive the motor after loss of DCC signal with either the original or additional keep alive capacitance?
I'm having problems with a BLI Paragon2 EMD NW2 Switcher (BLI part 1205) using it's Keep Alive capacitance to continue driving the wheels when it loses the DCC signal (whether by turning off the command station track power, lifting one side of the loco or running it onto unpowered track).
