For the DCC experts
Hi DCC friends,
I have a question for the DCC experts.
I am building a hidden staging section which consists of two tracks. I'm thinking that if I have a DPDT switch on each of the turnouts (SW1 and SW2) it may be possible to isolate a small section of one rail which would effectively stop Loco1 on one track.
(I did these drawings on AutoCad so the dead lines show as black):

Another Online service changing.... HOI moved to Facebook
Just a s little FYI, HOInterchange (previously HOYardSale) moved away from Yahoo Groups to Facebook this week.
I know a lot of people here use HOI as a valuable resource, so if you are looking for them you can find them here:

Hand-held DC Throttles
I need to replace two, old DC handheld throttles. Does anyone have recommendations for good quality, reliable throttles that are ready to use? I am not much good with the soldering iron so I don't want to build them.
Thanks for your help.

Putting Sound in Bachmann Vanderbilt (Vandy) Tenders
I have a number of Bachmann Vandy tenders that I wish to put sound (and decoders) into. In particular I am looking at the VC16 and VC12 tenders at the moment.
First the VC16 tenders. I want to build at least 3 different versions for experimentation purposes:
1) Mount a Railmaster bass-reflex speaker (already enclosed in its own 'box') on the bottom frame firing out the bottom of the tender.

Can your sound decoder replicate this? (EMD 645-16, SD40-2 Rev up/dn)
I was describing to somebody a sequence of sound that I wish the RailPro decoder could do and they said, "Can other decoders do what you are describing?"
I suspect the answer is yes, but since I have no experience with other systems, I am looking to you to provide some examples...
This video by (railjames on youtube) shows what we want to replicate:
railroad scanner app
Does anyone know of a smartphone app that will let you listen to railroad radio traffic. I have found a couple that listen to public service radio and ham repeaters but can't seem to locate one that picks up trains.

Favorite DCC sound decoder(s)/settings for geared logging locos
I'm making decisions and assembling the necessary materials to add DCC sound to some of my HO geared logging locomotives (shays, climax, heisler). As much as I would love to use TCS WOW decoders they apparently do not support shay (not sure about climax and heisler) chuff rates without resorting to cams. There is also no support for rod clank and other drive train sounds.
Repurposing Structures
I wanted to include a Yard office on this portion of my layout and looked a few online and then I remembered that the wife had scored me a box of what I think is some older Marklin structures on Craigs List.
So I pulled the box out of the closet and found what I think would make a neat office. Although it is a little more modern than some of the other structures I plan on using, I figure it could be a stage of the layout that has gone through a little modernization and show some progress.
Fort J Railroad
I retired recently and found myself with lots of time so decided several months ago to start model railroading again after a long hiatus. I really appreciate the easy access to a broad range of knowledge now available and certainly have benefited from this forum! I decided to post my modest attempts as it too may help others (They may even say—‘ gee—glad I didn’t try that!’)

Red Mountain & Silvertown Railway - feedback wanted!
It's about time I made my new layout plans official. My old layout, The Grimstad Line, is being rebuilt in my model railroad shop, but a new layout is already in it's initial stages of construction in my new home. This is going to be a lengthy post, so please bear with me.
