update on painting rail
PeterAtt turned me onto the acrylic color Rusted Pipe. I have tried to emulate a busier mainline/yard track color with burnt umber as the base coat, and a wash of the rusted pipe over it. My technique still needs to improve to get consistent coloring, but i think I like the result.
However, for my yard trackage, I still am looking for the proper tie color to go with it. Most people have suggested a lighter grey, but it seems to wash out in very light grey ballast. I think I like a bit of a brown in it, but fairly light.
Question about a weathered car.
Was hoping to get some feedback about the weathering on this car. Trying to go for fairly lightly weathered, with mostly streaking down the sides. Any improvements that can be made?
Another online Model Train Service making a change.
I got this in email today. It is from Alastair Lee who puts out a newsletter under Model Railway Layouts Plans.
After the major subject of today's newsletter Al included the following;
I’m going to be mailing a lot less.
Well, that’s not entirely true – I’ll still be mailing as often, but not to everyone.
Let me explain why I’m doing this.

Could a DCS200 be made safe for N scale?
Would it be safe to use a DCS200 as a booster on an N scale layout? We will have a fresh battery in all boosters and will be protected with either PM42 or PSx breakers. I was worried the 8 amps would cause problems, but would the circuit breakers set at 4.5 amps make the 8 amps safe for our scale? So far it looks like we will have 5 booster districts and the command station will be stand alone. There will be two DCS200's in the mix.
Thanks
On30 4-wheel electric "critter" update
Well, the thing-a-week has flopped, but to be honest, I don't really care. I can't force myself to work on stuff, and in reality, my "thing a week" might actually be yard work or house repairs in a given week. *shrug*
Meanwhile, I have returned to work on the 4-wheel electric motor that started my thing-a-week challenge! Update so far: Cab is done. Chassis is mostly done. New deck installed. Hoods attached, weights reshaped to fit over the larger Kadee #702 coupler boxes. Pantograph installed.

Top layouts you'd like to see on TMTV and in MRH?
What well known layouts would you love to see on TMTV and in MRH? Because of the way TMTV is working, many of these layouts could likely become coverage in MRH to go with TMTV. MRH is just so much better providing things like a good track plan you can study, so if we can swing it, we'd like to actually do a TMTV video *and* do a layout feature in MRH on your wish list layouts.
Optical detection alternatives
In Terry Terrance's article on optical train detection in May2014 MRH, he mentioned that there are two forms of detection. There is a third form, magnetic detection using either reed relays or Hall effect sensors.
Moderator note: Retitled the thread to make it more likely to gather the posts the OP apparently is looking for.

Some more work on the plant
Hello everyone,
I have been able to work on more weathering for this building. I have and weathered the graffitis and added, although temporarily, some of the details like the awnings and the rail guard for the stairs. I have started assembling the roof items but didn't start painting them yet.
Anyway, here goes some pictures.
