Fuel Pad or No Fuel Pad
It has been several months of life stuff and not working on my MEC and B&M Scenic RR. But I continue to plan. One of the photos of this week here on MRH led me to reexamine some photo evidence around the Dover NH yard I am modeling and question my earlier assumptions.
The Cement Industry
Hello all:
I'm looking for information on the distribution of portland cement by rail. I'm not interested in cement manufacturing plants (well I would be if I had room, but...) rather, in facilities where portland cement is loaded into covered hoppers at other than manufacturing plants or unloaded for distribution by tractor-trailer.

Switch Machine Touch Toggle Controls
Has anyone installed the touch toggle controls for the tortoise switch machines? I would like to hear some feedback about them. On the surface it sounds good.
Any and all observations would be appreciated.
My first observation is that it would cost about $200.00 to run 12 switch machines. That comes to about $17.00 a unit. So it ain't cheap.

Both under construction.
One of these days I might get to run some trains.
HO Scale UP Oregon Division update! Scenery, ballast.. etc.
Getting more and more completed on my railroad. (this is just one section of the railroad that is heavily sceniced) the other side is all industry and town.. Anyway, here's some of the latest work I've been doing:

Speaking about train controlers
I know that with dcc you can control a locomotive with a computer. Is there a software package that can control a passenger train between say 5 or 6 stations then reverse direction?

Woodchip Loader
As the logical follow-up to my thread about woodchip service, I started having the interest to build a woodchip loader. As far as I know there are three commercial kits that were available at one time: one by Diamond Scale based on the Prineville, OR loader and one by TrainCat Models based on (I think) the Anderson, CA loader, and one by Walthers which I believe is freelance. The Walthers one is still kind of available by purchasing the "Sawmill Outbuildings" 4 structure set.

Central Vermont Roxbury Sub Operating Session
Just concluded an operating session on my home layout. We ran the midnight-9:00 portion of the day last Saturday. Today a different crew came out to run the 9:00-3:00 pm trick. We had a great time - and the layout performed without incident. So much so that I had the rare treat to run a couple of trains during the session!

PCBs for Tortoise Relays
I set about mass producing the relay boards for my Tortoise controls. Originally built on IC experimenters board with point to point wiring, I quickly decided there were just too many interconnections for this method to be practical on 72 relay boards. A printed circuit board was in order.
Single Stall Engine House Part 6
The same day I finished the last update, I received the Grandt Lines smoke jacks in the mail. So this part we'll deal with the base roof assembly and installing the smoke jacks.
So first off I have a question as to why they are called smoke Jacks? If anyone knows out there let me know.
So first image I set the two roof halves in place and tacked them with some CY glue. The roof can be removable so I just glued the ridge together. This way you can add interior detail later and retrieve that derailed loco too.

H10-44 Help
I need assistance with two Walthers H10-44's that I'd like to convert to DCC with sound. Does anyone have step-by-step instructions/recommendations for a decoder installation or can anyone recommend someone or a shop that can do the conversions for me?
Thanks.
