FRP for backdrop - Questions (was DuraFlash questions - now FRP)

I am considering DuraFlash vinyl flashing as a backdrop material around my penninsula divider, but I have questions for those who have worked with it.

A couple photos from Slate Fork country

Been on a bridge-building and coal tipple-making spree, but also checking out my new (for me) Canon Rebel XT. Got it and the accessories on an auction site for $99. Good enough for government work. It may be a bit dated, but stops down to f/32, brackets shots automatically, etc., etc.

First batch of photos from it are of my N scale Southern Railway Slate Fork Branch.

Slate Fork Branch Second Mine Run with a single GP38 slows to cross the plate through-girder bridge (not shown) across Slate Fork. An empty coal truck waits.

Ideas For Making Layout Facia Labels

I need to make some attractive facia text labels for my HO CNY&NE Railroad and would love to have some ideas on how to proceed. I was considering using "Word" to make some text blocks, have them laminated and gluing them to the facia with some type of glue that did not melt the plastic laminating material. I also was considering using a large sheet of sticky label material sold at Staples and printing directly on these sheets. A paper cutter could be used to cut the labels to size and then stick them to the facia.

Allagash chop-nose Alco RS3 - images

Here are a few images of the latest Allagash locomotive. My buddy Neil Schofield offered to do a kitbash of a chop-nose RS3 a few months back. I said, you betcha!  Neil also did the painting and decaling. I did the weathering, and enjoyed every minute of it. Lots of Alco leakage. This is the last active RS3 on the AGR.Just about ready for the deadline. For now, it's the switcher at New Sharon.

Thoughts on The Fleet

In preparing for the next operating night, I often think about the makeup of the car fleet and the compromises I make to get the layout running.

Happy Birthday America!

One of the guys in the club I used to belong to (Westshore Model RR Club, Kingston, NY) asked in Facebook whether any members were coming to the club tonight and bringing Bicentennial power in celebration of America's Birthday.  Since we now live hundreds of miles away in South Carolina, that's not possible for me, but I post this in celebration and attending in "spirit".  Any of you have Bicentennial or Patriotic units you would like to share?
