California Dreamin'

HI All.  I figure what with the temperature supposed to dip to -10 here in Northern Indiana this weekend, what better time than to throw this out to the masses about an upcoming trip I will be taking the last week of March to visit my oldest son in Los Angeles.  He's 21 and moved out there about 18 months ago, so this will be the first time to visit him as well as my first ever trip to the West Coast.

dirt paint color

I see tht every one seems to use a tan paint on their layout. But the dirt in my area is more of a grey brown sort of color. Do you match the color to the area you are modeling?

Thanks

Dick

Bridging the gap

NOTE: If you read the forum thread about this you can skip this blog post as it won't have too much new information.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been mulling over how to cross the doorway to the layout room.  I posted a question to the forums about techniques and got some good feedback.  I figure I should also add something to the blog about how things are going since this is part of the building progress.

The Great Purge

The last of my non-relevant rolling stock has left the building, and this is my entire roster as of today:  One locomotive and four freight cars.  I've ordered more cars which suit my planned layout, but as of this moment I've never had so little equipment since I first started dabbling in this hobby in 1997.

Which track gets which wire on a wye?

Image from www.wiringfordcc.com

A previous post covered gap placement and reversers for a wye on my layout that has a similar config to the image below.

My question is: Does it matter what wire, red/black, goes to which rail in the wye tail below? I have gaps where shown and an auto-reverser to hook up. I think I can just pick a rail for the red and black and the AR will handle the reversing when needed.

Thanks.

Charles

Paint

Getting back in the hobby after 25 years.  Find paint choices have changed. Will be attempting a shelf switching layout on the Maryland & Delaware RR.  Anyone  know what shade of red is used on the locomotives RS3, and CF7's, looks almost like caboose red. Also need source for decals  in HO. Thanks in advance.  Zeke

Atlas Consumer Update #57 switch recall

Atlas Consumer Update - #57 Switch Recall

Close, but Not Quite

If there is a "signature car" on the BCRY, it would be the grey DM&E ribside covered hoppers which Tag receives. First, let me give you a quick primer on what Tag does:  They are a manufacturer of geosynthetic clay liners, for use as waterproof barriers in landfills, ponds, canals etc.  The main ingredient is Bentonite clay, of which they receive about 100 hoppers annually from two mines in Wyoming.  One mine is served by BNSF, the other by DM&E.

The Structures for the Relocated CNW Engine Treminal "Goods Warehouse"

This update will be for the structures that I am building/and have built for the relocated CNW Engine Terminal. The first one is a kit bash (sorta). I got this building as part of a collection I bought a few years back to resell. I wanted something a little different then what the original kit provided. After some research I think that it was from the Pikestuff series, and was the Pre Fab Warehouse. Well anyway what I did was repainted and weathered it. I then built the raised foundation and dock as shown in the first two photos.
