Railroad Patch Collection

These used to belong to my Great Grandfather and I am pretty sure most of them were actually from the railroads. I was given these for Christmas and also have a few more in storage. If anyone else has a collection it would be cool if you posted it here. Lets see how many we can get.

10 to start it off.

LED Light bulbs (110volt 65 - 100 watt equivalent)

Just finished spending several hours replacing 6 burned out CFLs.

I've been using CFLs since 2007 or so an have 20 of them plus some regular florescent T8 48" tubes.  Over the years every CFL has   been replaced at least once and many two or more times.  I've grown to hate them.

I just replaced some CFLs in the kitchen and we were immediately enamored with the instant on and the overall quality of the bulbs.

BLI Stock Car

Greetings everyone,

I’m having problems with my BLI stock car. The cows will moo once when I either place it on the layout or turn on the power but will not make another noise even when moving. I have tried selecting the decoder number (3) and even tried to get DecoderPro3 to find it, but no luck.

I have tried checking the power pickups and they are making good contact.

Anyone else had this problem or got any ideas for a fix?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

P&SF - main goal for the layout

When preparing my layout for an op-session some weeks ago, in a flash I could put words on what is my main goal for my layout:

Build a layout that is fun to operate!

Scenery, buildings, weathering, details etc will be a bonus if I ever come around to build that.

When it  comes to operation, I like many things:

My model of Monster Modelworks Feller's Garage

Here is my version of Monster Modelworks Feller's Garage.  I turned mine into a Shell Gas Station with lots of typical detail found at gas stations in the 70's and 80's.  I decided to make my own awning instead of using the one in the kit.  I just like some of my structures looking different from everyone elses.  I added darkened photos behind the clear acetate windows so you can sort of see an interior but not clearly.  When I drive by these structures in my area, the inside of these structures are very dark to almost black.

Time for a seismic shift? (Lego vs. ...)

This last week, I had some epiphanies regarding my model railroading that caused a minor crisis, and I thought that it might be interesting discussion fodder, especially given the new "imagineering" expansion that MRH has taken on. As the topic alludes to, it involves Lego, which I know has been discussed before, but hear me out...

Remondation for soldering feeders to track.

I've just started hand laying my track and that's going ok. I mentioned in my blog that I had wired feeder wires to the rail joiners when I laid my rail. It was recommended that I not do this and solder directly to the rails.

Now, my question is: How exactly should to solder to the rails? Before I spike them in place? How do I get the solder joint to fall between two ties? After everything is spiked in place? Some where in between?

No hurry, the glue is still drying on the ties.
