Diner from the past: a reference to the old days of toy trains
In this project, we see a firmilliar sight: one of the tinplate cars intended for my friend. This car is beyond an affordable restoration considering its a gift, so after a idea popped into my head I asked if he minded my doing something else with the carbody than restoring it to rolling condition. After getting the OK, I did more thinking. Here's the plan. We're all firmilliar with the idea of old train cars being used as diners right? But they're always older cars than the current era as would make sense.
Blue Box Radio Control Conversion
I've converted an Athearn blue box SW1500 to radio control using Stanton and DelTang components.
I've documented the conversion on my railroad's blog at smallurbanrails.wordpress.com .
Let me know what you think.

Teaching my 9 year old how to clean the gears
Yesterday I decided to repair/clean some locomotives that have been sitting in boxes for quite a while. My son was curious as to what I was doing so I decided to let him do the work with me coaching him. Explained how the electricity makes the motor turn and how the gears work. He did a great job of cleaning the gears and putting lubrication on them. Hopefully he will get the train bug too!! So after reading all the posts abo
Replacement wheels for Bachman Spectrum F40PH (Older Version)
Greetings All.
I have been scouring the internet with no luck to find some replacement wheels for my Bachman F40ph Spectrum Loco. Looked at NWSL but can't determine which one would fit. Anyone have a good part number? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mike.
Digitrax booster phase convention
I am busy getting my layout ready for the upcoming NMRA convention here in Portland and just connected up a new power district. The existing one has an older Zephyr, which I will retain as the layout's command station, and the new district has a DB 150 booster that I just got from "The DCC Shop" ( my go to source for DCC and track because of low price and outstanding service).

Smoke generator questions.....
I'm about ready to start designing a Hobo camp scene on my layout. Probably over done these days but I've got to have one. I bought a "fire kit" and got some appropriate hobos and thought that maybe that should do it but then I remembered something I had in my junk box.
What size wire?
Hi,
I have a Kato SD40-2 loco with damaged wires which I need to replace from truck pickup to the Soundtraxx decoder , can anyone suggest the correct wire size.
Soundtraxx uses 28 awg but I am having a hard time finding any.
Any recommendations for wire size and where to purchase small quantities, as I do not need 100' rolls!
Thanks for help in advance.

Phosphor Bronze strip for extra pickup power
Greetings all,
This question aimed mainly at Aussie modellers - can you recommend a supplier of phosphor bronze strip suitable for use in making extra wiper pick-up contacts on a brass HO loco?
I have an HO Pennsy 2-8-2 L6 electric loco with four driver pick-up one side but only two rear driver pickup (one flangeless) on the other. I need to get power from the front flanged driver.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks
John (nikko)
Athearn/Round House Trucks
I have a number of old Round House/Athearn rolling stock that have the plastic trucks on them, any good suggestions of what to replace the trucks with. These are 1980's vintage rolling stock. Currently replacing the horn hook style couplers with Kadee whisker couplers.
Thanks.
