A Peculiar Line Car from Quebec: QRL&P Co #200

I need some help learning about this car. So far I've found out that firstly, Arroseuse is French and directly translates to "water car" in English. Water car Sprinkler...           Yes...           It has pipes and nozzles. So, it's a line car that sprinkles water. But why!? What is a water sprinkling car useful for!? Please educate me on this if you may.

Friday Night Group D&H Operations June 2015

The Friday Night Group had a field trip to Aylmer Quebec to operate Michel' Boucher's D&H HO Railroad.  Here are three movies of the evenings activities which include Branch line running, Mine operations and a Turn.  Enjoy the action.  Lots of cool ideas you may want to consider for your layout and it's operation.

Advice on how to mount gates?

Hi all,

Im trying to figure out a good way of mounting two gates on my n scale layout. The gates are part of a chain link fence leading in to my team track, and i want to animate them, so i can use DCC to open and close the gates.

Black Electrical Tape for DCC installs

A few months ago I bought a used Bachman H16-44 with DCC installed. It worked but I wanted to play with the CVs. I got curious about what decoder was in it so I took it apart. The entire decoder and wiring were taped up like a cocoon with black electrical tape. What a gooey gloppy mess to take apart. Some mineral spirits and Q-Tips and about a half hour of scrubbing removed most of it. I re-taped with Kapton and the install looks much neater and I know will stay put without the gooey mess. The decoder can breathe too.

"Pink lady" ballast - "free" source

Wanting to be a modeler of the C&NW, and a guy that values money over time (it comes from 10 years of being poor), I think I finally found a "free" source of Pink Lady ballast, and it's pretty close to the source.

Layout Update: End of June 2015 - Part 3

The staging level had been completed and running for several months and I had been inching along on the main level due to a lot of diversions to my time in the layout building. But now, I have finally been making some progress on getting a major portion of the visible part of the layout in working condition.

West End Staging and a question regarding Reverse loops with in staging yards.

Will continue in the next post so the photos don't pile up on each page

Switching preference in the yard

Those of you doing Operations, how do you switch your yards? I was playing today at the club because after 6 hours of making sure the Ops session was ready the turnout was a SPECTACULAR failure. With my switchlists already done though, I lashed an engine to the first two tracks of cars and began shuffling cars into four trains. It's the prototype way, and honestly makes more sense than doing it one train at a time, but the little voice in my head was saying "Gee, Dispatcher needs a train ready to get a crew busy, and you have all of yours...

TCS A4X Decoder Start Voltage

I just finished installing a TCS A4X decoder in an Atlas Classic C424. Everything works but I cannot get the start voltage low enough. Or low enough for me. I am using the 3 step table. I have the start voltage CV set to 1, the Mid set to 128 and the max to 255. At speed step one the locomotive starts and smoothly moves along, but it is faster than I would like. I feel I should be able to get it to creep slower. I considered using a 28 step speed curve but can't see how that would help me get a lower start voltage. I have an NCE PowerCab setup.

detailing MDC/ Roundhouse 0-6-0

Back in the early 1960's, there was an article in Model Trains magazine (HO Railroading Made Easy) on detailing the Roundhouse 0-6-0.

Anyone have this article or know the issue date? It's the only article I could find on detailing this particular engine.
