The staging level had been completed and running for several months and I had been inching along on the main level due to a lot of diversions to my time in the layout building. But now, I have finally been making some progress on getting a major portion of the visible part of the layout in working condition.

This update continues showing the process that I use to take a DCC electrical plan from paper to actual installation.  There are lots of ways to do this, but this is the way that I do it. I like the wiring to be very modular so that, if there is a power problem, it can be disconnected at various places for troubleshooting, which is why I use a lot more connectors and terminal strips.  I especially like the euro-style terminal strips that can be cut apart into various sizes.

Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks, I will be conducting a DCC test of power district 4 on the main and third levels of the layout.

layout wiring update

Greetings. Enjoyed your description of the layout wiring progress. I like your thoroughness and the documentation process you follow and plan to do likewise. Keep up the good work and look forward to further progress reports.

Thanks

Phil,

I appreciate the comments.  I am documenting the process that I use in order to share what I have learned with other model railroaders in their first venture into DCC.  I am not saying that this is the only way to do this process but this process does work for me.  My plan is to have this power district running by the middle of July at the latest which will allow me (once the track is cleaned) to run trains from staging up the west helix to the main level.  This will also be the first use of frog juicers on the layout so hopefully nothing goes up in smoke (I did talk to the manufacturer about my understanding of their use and installation). Stay tuned.....

John
