Newbie Modeler
Hi all,
Started my first 'serious' model railroad in January 2015 (a few weeks ago, it seems). the blog about it is at https://northernpacificproject.wordpress.com/. I'm in the scenery phase, and would welcome comments thereunto. Specifically looking for info on N-scale road building and ballasting (a skill which seems to elude me). MRH seems to be a magazine that emphasizes doing over reading; so I'm doing. Would like to do it better,

SN&E The baseboard is finished - ready for the next step
I have finished making the baseboards. Today, I fitted some adjustable bolts to the corners of each board. I then set the boards up on my work top in the hobby room and got everything at a matching level. Here you can see it in place.

switch stands
does anyone make a ho scale plain switch stand, its a tall stand with a basic rectangle painted red . No lanterns etc.
thank you

BLI refurbished products - experiences?
On the BLI website has a "refurbished outlet store", with some decent deals.
What I am curious about is what would I be ending up with? - a scratch and dent model or bag of parts?
Thanks in advance,

Modeling an older industrial area in a big city
Hello all. Been a while since I have been on the forums. I've been so busy I haven't had time to do much modeling. But thats about to change. But here is where I need some advice.

OK, Here Goes. . . .
I have started on a master craftsman kit of a Nickel Plate wood caboose. This is a first for me as I've had this kit for 30 years and have never attempted a "scratch" kit requiring thinking, measuring, cutting. gluing, painting and patience.
Jul 2015 Act I - Lewis County model railroad club
What's the perfect location for a model railroad? The Lewis County Model Railroad Club's layout operates in the baggage room of the hundred-year-old Chehalis station, beside a BNSF mainline. Watch now ...

Alternatives
Need some help! I am starting, for the very first time in my career, to build a wood kit that I've had for nearly 30 years. It's a caboose and the instructions say to glue sides together and then use Scalecoat Sanding Sealer. Since Scalecoat is no longer in business, what is an alternative, keeping in mind I am not building a fleet nor am I sealing the wood floors in my house so pints, quarts and gallons are not acceptable?
B&M PS-2 Covered Hoppers
I have three Atlas B&M PS-2, 2003 cu. ft. Covered Hoppers - 5520, 5540 and 5541. The 1959 B&M Summary of Equipment shows the numbers are correct, a build date of 1956 and their having been delivered with roller bearing trucks. My question is what color would the trucks have been when delivered? The Atlas ones are black. I cannot tell from my 1989 photos of two of these cars with 33 years of weathering.
Thanks
