An Incredible Resource - April 1990 CN Winnipeg Terminal Car Control Manual

An Incredible Resource

Steve Boyko, recently posted a page from a very interesting document in a Facebook Railfan group I belong to.

The document is the April 1990 edition of the CN Winnipeg Terminal Car Control Manual.

When I saw the post my brain went haywire.
It contains track diagrams and car spot lists, codes, and names, for EVERY CN Customer in Winnipeg in 1990!

couplers and trucks for rail line boxcars

I am having trouble fitting Kadee 714 couplers and Micro Trains Arch Bar trucks, the trucks go too far into the body and the wheels rub on the underside. Any help or advice would be appreiciated

A source of fine wire

I am in the process of getting ready to start planning to think about maybe converting my as yet unbuilt nay unstarted layout to DCC! I tend to procrastinate sometimes, no most of the time, actually all of the time!

For this reason I have been doing a lot of research and reading on DCC and collecting supplies that I might need. One of the things I see a need for is fine wire to wire locos. Being cheap I like to use a lot of salvaged electrical equipment and I have been looking for a source of small flexible wires with several different colours. No luck so far.

Jul 2015 Act III - Creating water effects

Miles Hale makes a big splash in the latest Backshop Clinic as he demonstrates four products for creating water effects on your layout. Watch it now on TrainMasters TV ....

ANEmodel decoders

Has anyone used the new ANEmodel decoders?  They are very inexpensive & I would be interested in your experiences.

JB-3 in action

Due to track work on the LV main, JB-3 crawls at reduced speed on the old CNJ main. The parallel LV bridge makes a good photo spot.

LaMesa Model RR Club ATSF Ice Deck Progress

I've completed 54" of the North Ice Deck for the Bakersfield Yard. Have another 66" to go. I've finished casting all the parts in resin using RTV molds. This deck will ice 38, 40' reefers. After the North Deck is done, I start on the South Deck. This is only 7' long but needs all new patterns as its narrower than the north deck. Each deck will gets an ice machine that ran the length of the decks.

Large HO air tank for a compressor

I'm looking for ideas on modeling a vertical tank for air storage. Something in the 8-12' range, HO scale.

I'm not having much luck and may have to scratchbuild. Not much luck finding plans either. I can find horizontal tanks for use on small sized compressors, like in a shop.

Is it true that air tanks typically have a rounded end? Can they be welded seams or no welds?

Thanks.

Hill's Pet food plant

Spent last night finishing the track work for the Hill's Pet Nutrition plant in Commerce CA.  It's situated on a 2'x5' or so peninsula off the layout and will be one of the key anchor industries on my LAJ.  The plant was served by two tracks, for a total of six car spots.

confused TCS keep alive

Ive recently put TCS decoders with Keep Alives into my locomotives. Normally both of my locomotives run fine with the decoders, but occassionally they will just stop and flash the lights. There is also a noticable clicking noise. It is also worth mentioning that the problem usually occurs only at slow speeds. If I give them a nudge they return to normal operation.
