Modeling topic
Cutting plywood
I need to cut off about 3 inches of 1/4" plywood, against the grain, about 3/8 of an inch from the end of the board. Would a diamond wheel on a Dremel rotary tool work or should I use a Dremel Saw-Max?
West Allen Street. HO scale switching layout on a budget.
WEST ALLEN STREET (ATSF)
West Allen Street is a minimum space HO scale micro layout, built to see if an operationally interesting model railroad can be built on a small budget.
The layout is based on a small, urban freight spur somewhere in the United States. The idea of big things in small spaces is the key theme, with vertical space being used as well as the square footage on the ground.
Soo Line Tech & Hist Society convention
The Soo Line Historical & Technical Society's up coming convention is right in my back yard in Hudson WI. The weekend of September 19th I'm looking forward to giving my "era specific" diesel modeling clinic.
Train Length
Gents,
As a plan my Multi Deck layout, I question yards and length of trains... I for one am not in the hobby to "reinvent the wheel." What is a good yard size to give the appearance of long trains as they curve around the layout but also give the feel of a heavy haul as I will be modeling the Rio Grande mid 80's to mid 90's with lots of locos?
Is 30 coal cars not enough or is 45 to many with at least 3 locos up front and 2 mid train?

A new layout?
Hi all.
I really need some help, please. last time I tried to build a US layout, it was in H0, and things where going nice, until I started to do more than I could.
I had to scrap the layout, because I moved to a new place, in Feb of this year.
Finally, a track plan...
Finally took the time to draw up a track plan of my little switching layout.

Tip - making it easier to locate different types of ground foam
With my previous layout all of my ground foam containers were in a deep drawer where I couldn't see the contents of the bottles. I first labeled the tops to make it easier to find them but then decided it would be easier to choose a bottle if I could see some of the contents. I used some white glue to attach some of the ground foam to the tops and it is now much easier to find what I need. When I use up a container I save the top and put it on my new bottle.

Sullivan Furniture - Harriman Plans
This is a HO scale board-by-board siding over matboard build using plans from Pat Harriman's second book "Early Wood Frame and Masonry Structures". This is a build of the thirty-ninth plan in the book, Sullivan Furniture.
