Horseshoe & Cottonwood Update #4

Finally some trains actually running on the new layout!!  Even if it is just a test train.

H&C engine #23 emerges from Tunnel #1 and begins climbing Lubkin Canyon westward towards the Sierra Nevada mountains.

I roughed in the scenery below the bridge to minimize the number of times I need to remove the trestle from here on out.

Question for the east coast modelers on ballast colors for track

Good afternoon everyone. Question for the east coast modelers. What would you recommend for a mainline ballast color and secondary track ballast color. On my layout the tracks are so close it does get a little confusing so I want to start to add some paint on the cork for now then ballast the tracks. I have 2 mainline track and 2 tracks that go to and from the helix and/or freight yard. I will have a black ballast in the freight yards and sidings... I do model 90's to current, if that matters...Suggestions welcome!!

The sound decoder, Digitrax SDN144K0a, is the same decoder that was previously installed in the Kato E8A (April 2015) and two F7A units (July 2015).  The PB has a non-sound decoder.

Building the RGS Maverick Canyon Branch in HOn3

This blog will cover the design and construction of a free-lanced branch line connecting with the Rio Grande Southern at Placerville, Colorado. Named after the mining district at its destination, the line follows the scenic Dolores River canyon with dramatic red cliffs 100 rail miles northwest of Ridgway. The HOn3 layout will be portable, and will fit a lot of railroading fun in a small space.

My latest visit to the Georgetown & Allen Mountain RR.

Well folks, I got to do one of my favorite things - and that is, visiting Michael Rose and seeing his awesome Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad.  I didn't take many pictures as you've seen the latest progress on Michael's thread here on MRH.

I got a new transformer

I need some help.  I started off with a Lionerl Sante Fe El Capitan, and as time went on I added more track.  I usually set track on the floor and it takes about 2 rooms.  I replaced the small 90 watt transformer with a Lionel KW.  Stupid question, do I wire it the same as the smaller one or is it different???  Help, I plan to set the train up this Saturday.
