Misckatonic HO Railroad in The Escapist

I happened across this article in The Escapist, about the fictional city of Arkham, by H.P. Lovcraft, and the guy who built an HO model of it for his take on the Miskatonic Railroad.

The article is less about model railroading, and more about the inspiration behind building one, but the pictures show some excellent modeling.

Do you have a Kato Turntable

If so would you care to mention if you are satisfied with this item. I have watched the video re operation etc.Looks good but a hefty amount to outlay.

Thanks Tom

DCC to DC power supply

I have seen people that have used a bridge rectifier and a few other electronic parts covert DCC back to DC. Now I cannot locate any articles or schematics on the web. Does anyone else have a link or links to this topic?

Up-grading a Tyco Plymouth CR-4 switcher

Recently a fellow model railroader asked if it was possible to to DCC a Plymouth CR-4. You remember what a CR-4 Plymouth switcher is right? Tyco was the company that put it out on the market.

This is what it looks like.

The only sure thing is change

Well having to dismantle the layout to get ready to move has given me the opportunity to do some redesign work as I was not really all that happy with some of the elements of the Kingsbury Branch.

Adding Pickup to a Steam Locomotive

I have a steam locomotive that I'd like to add additional electrical pickups to. I don't have any phosphor bronze wire on hand but do have collection of old guitar strings. I am wondering if that would work in a pinch? Any ideas or opinions?

Collector or modeler?

When I was a younger modeler I wanted this car or that locomotive. Sometimes I'd search eBay international listings to find something I wanted from overseas. I could and still sometimes go to a train show and fill my arms with stuff.  But as I've matured I'm less interested in collecting and more interested in modeling. I'm currently working on plans for modeling two different prototypes of which no models exists.

Anybody else here find themselves shifting from. Collector to modeler?

Welcome to Canadian Pacific's Area H (Canpa Subdivision) Industrial Spur

After many years, I am finally graduating from armchair modeller/locomotive & rolling stock collector to layout builder and operator. Being an apartment dweller, space is at a premium for me, so N scale was the obvious choice.

I am basing my layout on Canadian Pacific's Area H Industrial Spur, located in Etobicoke, Ontario (map). Below is my finalized track plan.
