The Industry is the Hobby

The Industry is the hobby.

MRH has shown me that this is one of the most cooperative and friendly hobbies and industries out there.  Many of the small companies that make the products we like have owners that have been life long friends and a train show is actually also a reunion.  And they are almost all active modelers.

A simple post in MRH about a technical issue will result in a dozen helpful responses with shared information and new modelers are encouraged and not looked down on as far as I can tell.

Each set contains 20 complete binders that mate perfectly with Builders In Scale No. 250 40 lpi chain, and should also work with 51 lpi chain.

The bottom one is the lever style.

Prototype inspiration and a change of pace

I've been focused on getting the layout up and running with benchwork, wiring and trackwork taking up most of the available hobby time I have had.  Lately I've hit a bit of a wall with respect to wiring and trackwork, and needed a change of pace.  I found it.

While looking at the photo below I noticed a shed in the lower left corner that looked very similar to an existing kit:

Tonights operating session

For once I took some time out of my dispatcher duties to photograph some of the operations taking place on our layout. I thought I might share a few words describing whats going on and these pictures for a visual aid. As an over-view, this is an HO Scale layout in the basement of my good friend Lee Melton. While the layout is technically privately owned, he sees it more as joint ownership with everyone who puts in the blood and sweat.

German Model Railroad meet. A unique module for Free-Mo?

In the link below you find a German Model Railroad meet from November 2013.  In the N Spur section, first section, about 4:25 in, there is a unique return loop module that is designed to double as hidden or offline staging.  In the video it is holding two trains as a third comes in.  It could probably hold additional shorter trains running DCC.  For guys doing Free-Mo in N scale this would make a unique return loop.  M.C. Is this one to add to your collection?

HO track that connects to power

I have an old HO set I want to put up.  I am new to this and am missing the piece of track that connects to the power supply. I have attached a photo of the connector.  Where can I buy the track that will connect?

Freight house diorama

Haven't posted here in a very long time, haven't done any modeling in a very long time. I'm slowly getting those modeling juices flowing again. I finished up a little diorama over the past weekend using the Monster Modelworks Freight House Flat kit.

Zip Texturing Issues

I have Joe's videos, read the article in the September 2010 issue and read the blogs related to zip texturing.  I'm using Richeson Powdered Tempera Paint from Dick Blick and Plaster of Paris for the mix.  The formulas are exactly from Joe's video.  The shell is painted with a 50% mixture of latex paint.  But I'm having an issue with the zip texturing bonding to the shell.
