Mineral Spirits for track cleaning
I recall some very high recommendations for using mineral spirits for cleaning track (prior to any other coatings).
I picked some up the other day while in Walmart. When I went to use for cleaning something else it came out in a milky white color.
Is that really mineral spirits? I read the label and it appears to be one of those new fangled mixtures to protect ourselves.
Does anyone know if it is as effective as the old stuff??

Servo Motor Mounting in 2” Foam Board
Servo motors for turnouts are cheap, about $1.20 ea. Arduino controllers are $5.00 and handle up to 12 servos. They connect to a PC with a simple printer cable, Bluetooth or Wifi. This blog includes how to install the motors in foam board; sources for Arduino controllers & command code, servo motors, WiFi & Bluetooth hardware; and sources for how to connect everything.

Staggered Gaps in Track, between power districts & reverser zones
I know that it is generally accepted that gaps in the tracks be staggered to some degree,...for both power districts and reverse zones. But how little, 0R how much is acceptable?? Is 1/2" acceptable between power districts??

Turnout Throwbar Option Tutorial(CVT and P87stores parts)
Many have been asking me for a CVT Turnout tutorial, this will be the first part in a multipart series on this topic. It is also a stand alone tutorial on making turnout throwbars that look proper and are durable for operations. I will start off by saying that this is an advanced tutorial, and the tools listed to use are not required, but highly suggested(especially the resistance soldering equipment.)
Diamond crossing
I have all Peco code 83 track on my layout with the exception of one Shinohara diamond and it has been a pita from the getgo. Locomotives invariably stall or hesitate going over it.
The plastic frogs appear to be much bigger than they need to be which, I suppose, is to prevent shorts as the wheels go over so instead of shorts I get stalls. This is the only place on the entire layout causing trouble so it's not dirty wheels or track.
Does anyone have any wisdom on making this thing work like it should?

New YouTube Videos dealing with installing Peco turnouts and the twistlock motor
I’ve posted a couple of new videos dealing with installing Peco turnouts. The first video demos how to prepare your Peco turnout for installation on a DCC layout. I took the good descriptive info from a couple of sites and turned that into a “how-to” video. We show you how to add some jumpers to the turnout to improve electrical connectivity and, in the case of electrofrogs, point out the importance of snipping the 2 connecting wires under the turnout that come from the factory. Help and Advice needed, building a turnout
I recently made some Gauntlet track and to make it, I had to cut a pare of turnouts in half. I still have the other halves of the turnouts with the points on them. What I also have is a need for some slip switches. So I’m thinking about building a single slip switch from scratch using the leftover turnout parts from the Guantlet track. Does anyone have any advice for building such track pieces? Thank you
Superelevation using masking tape
Greetings all,
I’ve been involved in discussions regarding superelevation here before and the pros and the cons.
I was trying styrene risers but if I so much as sneeze they fly into nowhere and otherwise the just move too much anyway. I didn’t want to glue them in case I need to make adjustments.
Im now trying automotive detailing masking tape, 1/4 inch so that it’s easy to put on curves. I have a lot of it.
For anyone who has used tape for this a few questions:
Planning the Citadel Complex, help and advice needed
So, I have decided to start planning out a very important part of the White Lion Railways network, being the Citadel Complex, which is the official name of the Modern Columbus Union Station, in Columbus, Ohio. The Citadel is the Epicenter of White Lion Railways operations, being the Central station of the High Speed rail system that links Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Akron, Cleveland, White Lion City, and Toledo, as well as the East/West railway line connecting Lima, Columbus, and Steubenville.
