Trackwork

The S&NE Railway

I’ve posted the beginnings of a new journal on the new (temporary) forum site. I hope you will check it out and comment!

Making a 180 degree turn with flex-track

I'm planning to have a 180 degree turn at one end of the layout.  Have tight can I bend code 83 flex track?  I'm think of a 20 to 24 degree turn to give rail cars an easy way of it!  Can I do this and how wide of an area will I need to make that turn with some space on the outside for safety?  Thanks

Prototype point motors - US, CSX or NS practice?

I'm wanting to make some 3D printed point motors/machines to add as non-working details to my N scale track. I've looked through Google, but there's a huge variety there and I'm having difficulty narrowing things down. The one's I've been finding seem to be mostly oriented towards European and New Zealand railroads.

IAIS's 4th Sub - Trackwork begins

Exactly 8 months after moving to our new home, I was finally able to start trackwork on the IAIS's 4th Sub, so I thought it might be time for a new post devoted to that topic. My plan is to cover each prototype scene in a bit more detail as I go for comparison to the corresponding portion of the layout.  Each layout scene is a track-for-track representation of the prototype, so the overall design was relatively easy as layouts go.

As a guide to help orient things as we go, here's the layout plan again:

My freelance NS and CSX railroad.

Welcome to the Schmidt Division of CSX and the Berry Division of NS in HO Scale.

The name of Schmidt for the CSX division is named after my late grandfather who worked for the railroad for 50 years. The name of Berry for the NS division is named after a close friend of mine who honestly got me back into train both model and prototypes.

Best way to attach Txrail backsaver to ME ground throws?

I have a bunch of Micro Engineering HO switch stands that I would like to add Txrail backsavers to.  What is the best way to modify these and attach the throw handle so it looks fairly correct and accurate?  I've seen pictures so I know that people are doing it, but there isn't enough detail to tell exactly.  Thanks.

Section track off turntable for small branch line terminus?

I've been entertaining the idea of a section track off of this TT, but don't know if it would be a realistic thing to do.

If it is realistic to do, I'll shoo off the cow.

Sectional Track

I was surprised to see in this document from The Association of American Railroads ( https://www.aar.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/AAR-Chronology-Americas-Freight-Railroads-Fact-Sheet.pdf ) that continuous welded rail (CWR) made its first appearance in the USA in 1933. I would have guessed much later.
