#148 WHISKER® Couplers
So I see a lot of folks talk the praises of Kadee #5 couplers... and I have a few on my layout, but what I have been noticing lately (and maybe it's environmental) is that the #5s have been getting... stiff? If i have a bad coupler that won't spring back, it's always the #5 (and I replace it with the #148) The issue I see is the profile, due to the centering spring... having that extra piece of brass in the box is just making some of my couplers not want to move freely, and dry graphite lube isn't fixing the issue on most of my rolling stock.

Cannon & Company parts compatibility
Cannon & Company parts compatibility
This is a shot in the dark question (hoping someone here has had experience) in reference to Cannon & Company diesel parts working with Atlas diesel shells.
Specifically are the Cannon radiator fans and dynamic brake fans a drop in fit or will I need to modify the shell of the Atlas GP38. I'm not impressed with the molding for the Atlas fans and would prefer the fine detail and etched screen of the Cannon part.
Thank you,
Shane
What are metal wheels on scale model railcars made of?
This question came up in a discussion this weekend.
Could they be milled stainless (nonconducting) or steel, nickel silver plated brass or another silvery appearing metal? They don’t seem to rust and are generally conductive (or we might hear some issues of “wipers” not working.) Do different manufactures use different materials?
Thanks for your thoughts and knowledge.
Nick
Whisker Kadee's
Any negative comments on the whisker Kadee couplers. ?
I'm sold on them, and my future plans are to put these into as much of my rolling stock as possible.

Also I have the NCE USB interface I would like to use so that I can download and use JMRI for programming.
And also I would like to set up the Soundtraxx PTB-100 .
HELP! Bachmann's (older) Climax with split gears!
READER QUESTION SENT TO US:
Does anyone have one of Bachmann's lovely (older) Climax engines?
If so, have you run into the problem with broken/split internal gears? (Not the truck gears) I have three of these Climaxes (two with two trucks and one with three) and all have broken, internal gears.
Decoder overheat in Penna. Loco Works (Bowser) metal shell
I'm repurposing a cast metal Penna Loco Works FM shell on an Atlas H 16-44 chassis. I've outfitted it with a Loksound Select decoder and two Tony's sugar cube speakers.
