I finally finished this project; it had been in various states of completion since I started it. The inspiration came from a photo I found online from James Lalande (posted here with permission.) The flatcar and tie handler are not exact matches, but capture the look of the prototypes. The flatcar kit is from Red Caboose. It had the stake pockets as separate castings, which made leaving some off very easy. Wire loops were added for the tie downs.

Painting an Overland Models Austin Western Side Dump car

At the Supertrain show in Calgary Alberta last weekend I picked up an OMI Austin Western Side Dump car for a very good price. It is perfect for my prototype as both it (Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting) as well as Canadian National operated these types of cars.

Helix Humper motors

I happened on a couple of Helix Humper motors sealed in the original packaging. I am thinking on using these as part of a motor upgrade test series.

The question I have is the source of these motors. The package indicates that they were made by Alco Products in Pennsylvania.

All the info about HH motors indicate they were last made in Alliance, Ohio. Does anyone know the lineage of the motors that I have? What info I have found on the Ohio motor is mixed relative to other upgrade options.

Hi I am looking for a source of MP3´s of Locomotive train sounds of generic steam and diesel locomotives along with just train sounds to play from an iPhone when running a layout due to the fact that I don´t have DCC if anyone knows where I can find some that would be great.

Engine Problem

1st of all they really should add a help topic choice for I am sure it would be well used.

2nd of all my problem.

The locomotive in question is an all metal engine with pickups in the tender I am not sure if it is shorting but it sparks as it goes around and it stops and starts. Do you think it is something with the tender wheels? I will hopefully get pictures up soon.

Converting a K-Line Golden State end car into an Executive car

I am working on turning a K-Line Golden State Limmited end car (Golden Divan) into an executive car for my railroad. The main modifying will be making an end platform, and giving it a new interior. Also, the end light will be adjusted. Enjoy!
