MRH Website general discussion

Now try THAT with a paper mag!!!
Want to know one of the greatest things about Model Railroad Hobbyist? When a reader asked for plans from Les Halmos for a structure, here's the almost instant response he got from Les:
"Patrick R, thank you for the kind words. Send me an EMail at lesh@mrhmag.com and let me know which format your can handle. The drawing is in ACAD format but some alternatives may be possible.

Is there still a place for Model Railroad News?
Okay, with the demise of Model Railroad News, is there still a place for in-depth model railroad news and product announcements?
If so, what should it look like? How should it be done? How often?

GP9 1 to 1 scale cab ride
When I'm not doing model railroading I volunteer as a car host on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway in Blue Ridge, GA. Last weekend we had a light turnout of guests so I got the wonderful opportunity to take a cab ride in a GP9 - my first ever cab ride. Since I wasn't expecting this treat, all I had was my cell phone to shoot the video. I used a demo version of software to produce the video, thus the loco in the center of the screen. The only thing better the mod
Building bridges on grades?
I wanted to open a discussion about bridges on our model railroads and the grades we put in our track work. I am hoping Joe will jump in here to tell us what he did on his layout. In the prototype do the railroads interrupt their grades for bridges to be built level? I have heard that heavy downgrade breaking on a bridge can cause rail slippage on the prototype bridge and damage it. I do not know if this is true or not.

Question about BLOG editors
I have a quick question. I'd like to use a BLOG editor to post updates to MRH. MarsEdit has the ability to post to a Drupal BLOG but I am running into an error saying I don't have permission to edit the BLOG (I put my ID in for the BLOG ID). Is this not a supported way of posting to my BLOG, or am I missing a step in the configuration process?
Thanks,
Ryan

Name that area - your suggestions please
I was just reading another posting on naming locations on a layout and I'm at a loss to name an area in my alcove expansion. The building on the left is Palmer Asbestos and the building on the right is yet to be named. When considering names it can or cannot refer to the industry names. The name of the artist that painted the wall mural is Linda. I may or may not use your suggestions, but I welcome them and thank you in advance for your input.
Using LED 's with Aux-box
I am considering using an AUX -BOX to turn power on and off in a passenger terminal
can I also use LED's toindicate if power is on or off to the individual tracks
If so How can I do this
Thanks
Richard
New Bright Holiday Express
I am a G scale modeler with a front yard layout. At the various holidays, I run my trains for the neighborhood kids. Halloween I ran a modified Bachmann 4-6-0 decorated for the evening. During the Christmas holidays I like to run a Santa train when my schedule allows. The last several years I have run a variety of trains, but mostly a USA Trains passenger set from 2000 that runs well.
