Dummy B-Unit w/Sound Decoder
This may be a dumb question,...but if I have a Dummy B-Unit that has a Sound decoder, doesn't this unit have to be consisted with an A-unit in order to function ??? Otherwise how will it know to correspond the sound of it's motion with that of the A-unit pulling the train ??? Also, will the Sound decoder receive commands from A-unit decoder as far as horn/bell sounds etc,...???
Gauntlet Track Help
I am curious about the use of and the application of a Gauntlet Track in my layout.
Has anyone installed on of these Gauntlet systems on there layout?
I'm looking for helpful hints on how to make a Gauntlet Track on my layout.
This would be a good How To for the magazine.

Pleast don't mark posts as spam inappropriately
We're getting an increase of people marking posts as spam that are not spam, just posts that some might feel are a little "out there".
The spam link is not to be used to "censor" other posters and if we find you are using it that way those are grounds to have your account locked.
Mistakes happen, we realize - but if you do accidentally mark a post as spam, please let us know so one of the moderators can fix it.

No sound until Locomotive moves (Loksound 3.0 installed)
I have Loksound 3.0 installed in my Locomotive, for some reason now the sound does not come on until I hit the first speed. I have JMRI. Could someone tell me what to change please.
Thanks
Articles I'd like to see on MRH ......
Ok Joe, you asked for it.
Lets get a list together of articles you would like to see done in the upcoming months of MRH. Add it on here and maybe some one will offer up and complete one or two......
Mine are
freight car wheel sizes
Scratch building structures nothing particular just just different ideas and materials
and the list goes on....

What does coke look like?
The sugar beet industries used a lot of raw materials in the sugar extraction process. Two big commodities were limestone and coke. I know what limestone looks like but I'm not sure how to model coke (no, not the soda pop). I need to make loads for hopper cars and create piles of it around the beet factories.
Using Specialty LEDs - Part 1
Here's the next installment in the e-book that I am writing dealing with electronics for model railroaders. This installment begins a chapter on specialty LEDs. Flashing, bi-color, surface mount, LED strips, etc. will all be covered in this chapter. This is the first part.
The material in this chapter will be old hat to those savvy in LEDs. Comments and questions are welcome.

Ballasting turnouts - best practices
Please give me your opinion on best practices to ballast a turnout without "gumming up the works". I use the usual technique for ballasting the track using a 25/75% mixture of white glue/water (with a few drops of alcohol) and of course I would be careful around turnouts. I've heard of people putting the ballast in the turnout and not using any glue to avoid the possible problem of gumming up the movable parts. I've also heard of people using 100% white glue within the turnout in a very thin layer to avoid the seepage of the 25/75% mixture.

Mail Order Mess Up
When I saw the MRH article on Zip Texturing in Sept 2010, I ordered a quantity of tempera powder. Of course, I didn't have anything to texture at that point in time, so the unopened box has been languishing under the layout since then.
Well, yesterday I felt the need to texture so I opened the box. Brown, yellow and white pigment??? I thought I ordered black but the order clearly showed white.
NMRA Photo Collection
Hi Guys,
If you were not aware of it, the NMRA photo collection is now available online http://archive.nmra.org/Photographs.aspx?c=118 to both members and non-members (who can also order photo downloads at a slightly higher fee). I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the scope of the collection and the ease in using it.
