Hi everyone!

Hi from Northern Nevada

I wanted to say hi to everyone. I have been away from model railroading for about 26 years and have just gotten the train bug back big time. I have modeled in HO and HOn3 and my new adventure with be in the same scale.

I am very impressed with this site and the magazine. Wow, has modeling evolved in some areas!! I hope to learn a lot from you all.

Thanks,

Gary

US in the UK for a semi seasoned modeller

Hi all,

During the last week I have discovered MRH (with the Ezine & pod casts on the ipod while im modeling). This recent discovery has led me to have a bit of a change of direction.

Construction Begins

For the first time in my life I have said "Hooray, summer is over". My wife knows me all too well. I was all ready to start construction of the LK&O this past spring when she said "I know once you start building that train layout I won't be able to get you to do anything else. Can you wait until after summer is over to start?" Yes dear.

Well Labor Day has come and gone so here I go.....

Need Help Getting Back on "Track"

Hi all, (i don't really know which topic this should go under maybe we need a disaster page)

What Keeps You From Actually Starting A Layout?

Ok, I know why I haven't started building a layout yet, but I would like to know from those others out there who are part of the hobby, but haven't started working on their own layout, why not.

Confused about Digitrax switch machine controllers

I have downloaded and read all the manuals concerning what I want to do with turnout control, but am confused with two Digitrax modules. I want to control Tortoise switch machines, and will use BDL168 occupancy detectors. I understand the SE8c uses the BDL168 for its input information, and it controls signaling as well as turnouts. I also understand the DS64 controls the turnouts. I need help understanding these two modules: If I use the SE8c do I need the DS64 as well? Is it either/or, and if I need just one, which is the "better" solution?

Rail Blackening

I just jumped right infrown. I did give it some thought before I reached out for Rail and Ties.

Hi from New Zealand.

Hi All,have been out of the Model Railroad scene for last 30 yr's and finally getting back into it.I was into the English OO gauge back then but now i have decided to go with American N-scale with my large basement i am starting on building a large layout in my spare time. The rest of my other time is taken up at work and yep I am a Locomotive Engineer or Engine Driver for Kiwi Rail here in Picton New Zealand so i get to play with the Big toys too.

A quick question about DCC decoders

I have some questions about installing decoders in HO brass locomotives.  These models do not have lighting installed which was not a problem with my earlier analog (CTC16e) command control system; the receivers (now called "decoders") only processed speed and direction signals.

I have been out of the hobby since before the advent of DCC and so DCC is "somewhat" new to me.

In looking over the decoder choices (my, how many there are!), I notice that all of even the simplest of them include leads for locomotive hookup/control.
