Getting Started

Looking for somewhere to sell HO gauge stuff....

I don't see a "For Sale" forum here, so pardon me if this is the wrong place to ask.

Help! I've even left the armchair.

Looking back over last year's bank statements, I notcied I last went to my local hobby shop back in March. That pretty much means the last time I worked on my model railraod, lest visited it, was about nine months ago.

Bill Henderson's Coal Belt.

Hey everyone!, this is my first post and want to start off by saying Hi! I'm presently starting my very first layout and trying to get the benchwork done for Bill Hendersons "Coal Belt" line and wanted to know if anyone had any info or knowledge of this particular plan. I'm presently working strictly off the overhead plan thats located in Model Railroader Magazines Track Plan database as far as grid work and benchwork design. I cannot seem to find any 3-D views of this plan anywhere and was thinking about ordering the Great Model Railroads 2002 VHS tape that covers this layout.

Programming track insights

Hi,

I got my decoder in the mail and got my Old Athearn sw7 out to put in the decoder. It is a DH123AT. The motor mount that came with the decoder had 2 pegs and the sw7 has only one.

The Trainmaster got the call and is up and running. I did have some trouble with the decoder though. It would run until I put the schell back on, and then it would not work.

Back in hobby after 20 plus years

After being in the hobby for many years I got side tracked, but always wanted to get into it again.  What a shock!

DecoderPro, Digitrax PR3 and my computer

My PR3 finally arrived the other day but I didn't get a chance to look at it until last night. I read thru some of the instructions and noticed that the PR3 comes with a mini-disk containing the necessary software to make it work. I haven't put everything together yet but it doesn't look that hard and it certainly doesn't look complicated.

Is there a right way to model railroad?

I think alot of folks give the impression that there is only one right way to build and operate a model railroad. But is there really? I don't know but I am sure there are lots of opinions on this. So let's hear them.

New guy - lives in apartment, travels a lot

Here's another scenario I see a lot with some new folks interested in the hobby:

  • Live in an apartment (no space)
  • Travel a lot (never home)

Yet they're interested in the hobby. What can they do? And telling them to just read magazines and books doesn't count - we're talking GETTING STARTED here in this forum.

That means DO THE HOBBY, not just dream about doing it!
